Position Summary:
The Manager of Meadowbrook Farms ensures the proper management of valuable resources of the Department of Agriculture and EKU. The Manager oversees all of the laboratory spaces external to the Department of Agriculture's main building including the Meadowbrook farm, greenhouses, horticultural areas and all other properties. The individual acts as a liaison between the Department of Agriculture and the Farm staff, and coordinates laboratory and research activities for the Faculty. Key responsibilities include directing the livestock & crop management programs, acting as the financial advisor of all EKU farms, managing assigned personnel, and ensuring efficient operation of all assigned areas.

The incumbent must maintain a flexible work schedule and will be required to live in University provided housing on the farm grounds or within a reasonable agreed upon distance from the farm in order to be available to quickly address and respond to any farm related emergency.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Animal Science, or related field is required.

Minimum Experience:
Five years of related work experience is required.

Minimum Licensure and Certification:
A valid driver’s license is required.

Incumbent is required to live in University provided housing on the farm grounds or within a reasonable agreed upon distance from the farm.

Desired Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate agricultural field with a minimum of 5 years direct experience in animal or plant production. Proficient communication and soft skills such as but not limited to interpersonal, confidentiality, problem solving are essential. Strong interest in agriculture industry and ability to effectively teach students hands-on techniques as needed for teaching labs.



Job Functions:
Coordinate with faculty and assistant managers to insure the smooth operation of all farm enterprises.
Serve as the financial advisor of all EKU farms. Assists with farm business affairs involving contractual arrangements, purchasing and marketing, and formulate enterprise budgets for each of the units in a format understandable to faculty and staff.
Work with faculty to institute and maintain profitable and sustainable forage production practices
Maintain facilities and practices in accordance with university standards and laws governing animal care and use (IACUC).
Communicate with faculty, students, government, and industry representatives and the general public to develop positive connections and service activities.
Manages equipment operation, safety training, facilities usage, and maintenance and repair of equipment and property
Conducts laboratory projects, leads field days/tours, and assists with research/lab projects and proposals as needed.
Supports the department functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned.
