DISCOVER PACIFIC UNIVERSITY:
Pacific University achieves educational excellence by being committed and responsible to achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion within leadership, staff, and the student body.
Pacific University is a small but diverse community, where students thrive in a personal academic environment. Our Eugene campus is nestled near the confluence of the Willamette and MacKenzie rivers at the southern end of the Willamette Valley and 50 miles from the Oregon Coast. The Woodburn Campus is situated in the fertile Willamette Valley, in a community of 25,000 residents, 25 miles south of downtown Portland and 15 miles north of Salem. The historic main campus is located in Forest Grove, located 25 miles west of downtown Portland.
Tracing its roots back to 1849, when it began as a school for orphans of the Oregon Trail, Pacific has long been devoted to making a difference in people’s lives. We recognize that Pacific University campuses are located within the stolen homelands of the Tualatin Kalapuya people, today frequently members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon (CTGR). For more information please visit the following guide on the Indigenous History of Oregon. In 1880, Pacific leased land to house the nation’s second federally funded, off-reservation Indian training school, which moved to Salem in 1885. We acknowledge Pacific’s role in the coercive assimilation of Native people and are still working towards accountability and creating just systems. We express our respect to those with ancestral connections to this land as well as to all displaced Indigenous people in what is known today as Oregon.
Today, students study in a unique combination of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs in the liberal arts and sciences, optometry, education, health professions, and business. We are proud that approximately 50% of undergraduate students are of color, and we are actively working to build an inclusive, diverse learning community that also includes leadership, faculty, and staff of color. Pacific University has campuses in Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Eugene, and Woodburn, OR, as well as an office in Honolulu, HI. In addition, a variety of Pacific University clinics throughout the Portland area serve patients and provide students with practical experience.
At Pacific University, students and faculty engage in discovery through close, nurturing relationships that provide extraordinary learning experiences. International study, service learning, internships and co-curricular activities have been integral parts of the education of nearly 25,000 alumni worldwide who share in the Boxer spirit.
