The Leadership and Counseling Department in the Eastern Michigan
University College of Education
develops caring and ethical educational leaders and professional
counselors through co-constructed
teaching and learning experiences, respectful service and community
engagement, and intentional
research and inquiry to promote equity. We prepare courageous
leaders and mental health practitioners
to assume prominent roles in effecting positive change in clients,
students, families, and communities in
local and global contexts. The Department is currently seeking a
Department Head.
The Leadership & Counseling Department Head will lead us in
carrying out our mission, stated above.
The department has a vibrant and diverse faculty with a long
tradition of excellence and innovation, and
a commitment to centering equity and social justice in our work.
The Department Head, in collaboration
with the faculty, provides strategic leadership of personnel,
financial, and operational activities, and
ensures success through the development and direction of the
academic department.
The K-12 Leadership Program is also looking to fill five (5)
full-time positions for Fall 2022.
Eastern Michigan University is one of the largest producers of
professional educators in the United
States. We are located in Ypsilanti, adjacent to Ann Arbor and 35
minutes from downtown Detroit. The
Educational Leadership Program within the Department of Leadership
and Counseling offers a
master’s, specialist, and doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in educational
leadership, as well as an undergraduate
LEADership minor. These programs are primarily designed to prepare
practitioners for leadership roles
in P-12 and higher education/student affairs. Demonstrated
commitment to working with a culturally
diverse student body is required for all positions.
Two (2) Tenure-track Assistant Professors with specialization in
K-12 Educational Leadership to begin
in August 2022. Faculty members are expected to focus on teaching,
scholarship, and service as well
as collaborate with colleagues across the university. The candidate
will be expected to teach and
mentor graduate students in an online environment and engage in
doctoral level work, chairing and
serving on dissertation committees.
Two (2) Visiting Assistant Professors will teach graduate-level
classes for practitioners and advise
students in the field of K-12 Educational Leadership, beginning in
August 2022. The Visiting Faculty
members will be expected to maintain a focus in teaching,
scholarship, and service, as well as
collaborate with colleagues throughout the university. The
candidate will be expected to work with
students on and off campus, face-to-face, and in on-line
environments.
One (1) Full-time (100%) Lecturer will teach graduate-level courses
in the K-12 educational leadership
program, which includes master’s and education specialist degrees
in building- and district-level
leadership, respectively. In addition, the successful candidate
will assist with the organization and
administration of the K-12 leadership internship required for
principal certification in Michigan.
