The new Master of Arts in Equity & Healthcare program at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for an interim program director. This administrator appointment begins immediately and ends June 30, 2023 with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent position. It’s anticipated that the program will launch in the fall of 2022.

About the Program

The M.A. in Equity & Healthcare will provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the work of designing and supporting the operation of healthcare systems that provide equitable care and intentionally work to reduce healthcare disparities. Contemporary medicine, ethical healthcare, and responsible and responsive public health initiatives require a focus on equity, including equity of access, treatments, and outcomes. Students in the program may be acquiring additional credentials to work in a variety of clinical healthcare settings; may work in public health, non-profit, or advocacy organizations; or may be interested in positioning themselves to apply for medical school.

About the Position

The interim program director will assume academic and administrative responsibility for the M.A. in Equity & Healthcare and will be the face of the program for prospective and current students, faculty and staff, and external partners. They will participate in marketing and recruitment planning for the program, will review student applications and make admission decisions, and will establish and coordinate internships. The interim program director will also serve as a major liaison with students including holding regular office hours. They will teach three courses per academic year, will hire and meet regularly with program faculty, and will provide leadership for curriculum development. The position will report to the Vice President for Graduate Programs and Continuing Studies and will work with him and other graduate program directors and university colleagues to develop effective academic and programmatic plans.

Position Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a relevant Ph.D. degree or a M.P.H, a minimum of five years of experience in any of the aforementioned fields, and a demonstrated commitment to healthcare equity, and is well-equipped to support the program’s variety of students. Prior teaching experience in clinical care, public health, healthcare administration, or related professional sectors is required. Applicants must have a clear understanding of and commitment to teaching excellence and innovation at a liberal arts institution, demonstrated success working with diverse populations, thoughtful approaches to program and curricular design, and experience developing and managing student support services. As responsibilities are both inwardly and outwardly focused, the interim program director must possess strong strategic, tactical, analytical, and interpersonal skills. With Hollins’ proximity to multiple healthcare systems and the growing reputation of Roanoke as a regional healthcare hub, ideal candidates will have experience building relationships with a variety of partners in the broader healthcare landscape. Experience in online learning environments is also preferred.
