Faculty - Tenure Track - Art & Design Art History Assistant Professor

Summary:
The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in art history beginning August 2022. We are seeking an innovative, inclusive, and student-centered art historian to teach a range of art history courses from introductory/survey courses to specialized upper-division offerings. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge in art history as well as the ability to teach specialized courses in ancient and medieval art, as well as in global art. Course delivery may include face-to-face, online, and/or livestream. Further duties include mentoring students, engaging in continuing scholarship and professional activities, participating in program reviews and curriculum development, and participating in service at the departmental, school, and university levels. The successful candidate may be asked to serve as the program coordinator for the art history area.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Art History (or ABD with degree completion required by start date). Experience teaching in higher education. Knowledge and skill in current online instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and disciplined content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge: - Knowledge in art history from ancient to contemporary periods- Knowledge in art history theory and practices - Knowledge in current instructional theory, methods, strategies, and techniques (including face-to-face and remote delivery)- Knowledge in student management, motivation, and evaluation techniques- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives

Skills: - Skills in teaching art history and related practices - Excellent communication skills - Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and decision-making

Abilities: - Ability to relate well with students and colleagues - Ability to evaluate student work effectively both orally and in writing - Ability to develop and teach online courses - Ability to teach large section courses- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives

Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Art History (or ABD with degree completion required by start date). Experience teaching a range of courses (lower- and upper-division) as well as a range of modalities (live, online, remote) preferred. Three or more years of university-level teaching experience preferred. Expertise in art history before the Renaissance preferred (i.e. ancient art through the Middle Ages). Experience teaching global art preferred. Experience teaching/working in linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse settings desirable.

Physical Requirements:
Standard faculty teaching / office requirements.
