Basic Function
The Van/Bus Driver is responsible for operating a University van or bus to safely transport members of the Renaissance Institute via fixed route from a designated parking lot to Fourier Hall or other designated location; performing daily pre- and post-trip vehicle checks and inspections; documenting and reporting any maintenance issues; and operating a wheelchair lift and assisting physically handicapped passengers on and off the bus as necessary.

Essential Functions

1. Operate University vehicle to provide safe transportation as assigned.
2. Operate a wheelchair lift and assist physically handicapped passengers on and off the bus as necessary
3. Inspects the condition of vehicle daily pre- and post-trips.
4. Promptly report any maintenance issues or accidents to the Office of Public Safety.
5. Maintain a clean and neat vehicle
6. Return vehicle with at least ¼ tank of gas. Refuels when necessary.
7. Report, within 24 hours, if Drivers License status has been affected by suspension, revocation, cancellation, lost privilege, or disqualification.
8. Report lost/found property for any items left in vehicle.
9. Build rapport with Renaissance Institute members.
10. Performs such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred; Class C non-commercial Drivers License valid in the State of Maryland required.

Experience: At least two years of experience driving any type of vehicle with a good driving record.

Skills/Aptitude: Possess strong interpersonal skills, which include courtesy, politeness, and the ability to successfully interact with different cultures and personalities in a professional and tactful manner. Must have the ability to drive in all types of weather. Experience working with older adults is preferred.

Working Conditions: Light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required. Some occasional evening and weekend work may be required. General schedule consists of Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. including a 30- or 60-minute lunch break, February 1 to 1st week of May and September 1 to 1st week of December.

Other Responsibilities: This position is designated as a Responsible Employee (RE). A RE is required to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator.
