City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 68,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

Reporting to the Director-Instructional Design, the Manager-Instructional Design is responsible for developing courses and assisting distance faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies used in the design and development of Web-based and Web-enhanced programs and courses. Evaluates faculty and staff compliance to Center for Distance Learning practices, procedures and standards.

Your Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing courses and assisting distance learning faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies used in the design and development of Web-based and Web-enhanced programs and courses.
  • Assists faculty and staff with technology-based learning projects from conception, through design and production, to completion. Coordinates activities with members of the CDL team, external product suppliers and other divisional units to accomplish this duty.
  • Assists faculty and staff in designing and developing graphic elements for integration into Web-enhanced, Web-based, interactive media and production projects in both asynchronous and synchronous e-learning environments.
  • Evaluates pedagogy goals with technology tools with emphasis on identifying and using the right technology for the situation.
  • Identifies and assesses targeted learning objectives with emphasis on designing end user- learner focused activities. Assesses course progress and success of tools, projects and techniques against student learning objectives.
  • Evaluates requests from faculty and staff for technology-based learning projects and recommends appropriate products and production activities.
  • Uses digital cameras, scanners, graphic tablets, and other digital devices to create original graphic design elements for production.
  • Uses course management software (e.g. Canvas, BrightSpace), web production tools and graphics illustration software, streaming audio and video software (e.g. real, QuickTime). Uses HTML design, authoring, and editing tools. Uses PowerPoint and other presentation tools.
  • Participates in the development and presentation of workshops for faculty and staff in the use of Web-based and digital media technologies.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies, processes, hardware, and software for the production and integration of graphic design elements into learning technologies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new instructional software and hardware. Attends appropriate conferences and seminars as needed. Prepares reports as required.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Education Technology, Communication or equivalent field required.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of course management software, graphics and Web production software/hardware in an educational setting.
  • Experience with D2L BrightSpace, Canvas, or other learning management systems, instructional graphic design, development and production concepts related to online coursework and material.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.
  • Experience working and/or teaching in a multi-cultural, urban community college setting preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
