Job Summary:

Incumbent will join our diverse and expanding Cancer Health Disparities Initiative (CHDI) team as a Community Health Educator / Outreach Specialist in rural Wisconsin. The incumbent will work to build collaborative efforts between our rural community members, rural health clinics and researchers at Carbone to understand barriers and facilitators to clinical trial participation in rural areas. The project is in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) National Outreach Network ( https://www.cancer.gov/about-nci/organization/crchd/inp/non#programs ). The incumbent should be prepared to spend time in community clinics, with partner organizations, and other researchers to distribute surveys, conduct focus groups and / or conduct outreach or educational sessions.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

- Work experience related to community outreach, education and training, health literacy or public health required. Two or more years of experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and to speak effectively in a group setting is required.
- Experience mentoring student interns and writing reports, grants or publications desired.
- Experience living or working in a rural community preferred.
- Experience developing and managing projects with multiple community stakeholders preferred.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously is strongly preferred.
- Experience developing literacy informed health education materials and training others to conduct health education is desired.

Preferred qualifications:
- Ability to speak and present in front of others (public speaking)
- Demonstrated ability to project manage
- Demonstrated ability to work with teams
- Ability to travel around Dane, and surrounding counties for outreach events
- Ability to travel nationally one time a year
- Attention to detail; facility with standard computer software applications.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in a team-oriented environment.

- This position requires regular travel throughout a multi-county region and occasionally state wide. A valid driver's license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage (or own transportation) is required.

- Successful candidates will have experience in community outreach, health education and program planning and evaluation. They will have excellent skills in relationship building, coordination of projects, tracking of outcomes, strategic thinking and problem solving. They will have interest in applied research in population health and community based participatory research. They must be committed to health disparities reduction in partnership with communities affected. They will also have the capacity to work very independently and to participate effectively in a highly collaborative team. Experience mentoring student interns and writing reports, grants or publications is a plus.
