Director, Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor - ASU Project ECHO

The Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions (CHS) Project ECHO program is seeking a full-time, 12-month Director and non-tenure clinical faculty member at the rank of clinical assistant/clinical associate professor. The expected workload is 40% administration, 40% teaching, and 20% service. This is a fixed-term appointment that is renewable

annually. Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the college and university.

Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) connects primary care and specialty physicians through a telehealth platform to complete peer-based continuing medical education (CME). ECHO’s approach uses live discussions and treatment consultations with clinical specialists to replicate one of the most impactful sources of new medical information, a physician’s professional peers. While other forms of CME are largely ineffective, preliminary evidence suggests that Project ECHO increases PCPs’ quality of care, reduces waste (e.g., fewer unnecessary tests, less travel), and improves patients’ health outcomes). ECHO also reduces health disparities by virtually training primary care physicians (PCPs) in rural and underserved communities.

Through teaching, academic programs, service, and research, all faculty at the College of Health Solutions address one or more of our three major areas of focus: 1) The systems of health care and the health needs of populations; 2) Health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan; 3) Personalized interventions through precision health. Across these areas, we work to address complex and difficult health problems which require transformative collaboration, translational research, and innovation. We are particularly interested in making an impact on populations with significant health disparities.

Responsibilities for the director position include planning, directing, and reviewing activities and operations of ASU Project ECHO to ensure the achievement of established objectives and goals. Oversees new program planning, development, implementation, &/or evaluation, including implementation, monitoring, and analyzing data and program evaluation plans.

Secures external funding through grant-writing, grants, and sponsorships. Develops and maintains program budgets. Participates in the hiring, training, and evaluating department staff; supervises all department staff directly and through subordinate managers. Collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders. Maintains effective relationships, assists with developing annual strategic goals, objectives, internal policy, and procedures. Resolves problems and/or issues affecting the Project ECHO team and program; directs measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department. Must be able to maintain contractual obligations set forth by the ECHO Institute. Must attend annual trainings of the ECHO Institute.

Additional faculty responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in on-line and/or in-person and providing service to the college and relevant degrees.

Applicants must present evidence of teaching experience and a strong commitment to high quality teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

At ASU and the College of Health Solutions, we work to maximize opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives. We value and encourage cultural and intellectual diversity and strive to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students — which we believe is critical to our success as a community.
