The Haverford College Libraries seek a two-year fixed term, exempt (at least 37.5 hours per week), benefit eligible Post-Baccalaureate Fellow ( Anne T. and J. Morris Evans Post-Baccalaureate Fellow) to build and populate innovative digital projects which will make Quaker materials accessible to a wide population of users and invite new kinds of engagement with the materials.

Based in Quaker & Special Collections, the fellow will also participate in many aspects of the work of the department, including providing reference service, describing and working with rare books and manuscripts, and digitizing materials to create projects and online repositories. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with Quaker & Special Collections curators, the Digital Scholarship team, and undergraduate student collaborators. Mentoring and training will be provided.

The post-bac will work on major projects relating to our internationally-regarded Quaker collections during their time at Haverford. They will scan and create metadata for new acquisitions from the Cope-Evans family in order to build out the current Cope-Evans digital scholarship project. They will also work on digitizing the papers of Rufus M. Jones, one of the most significant Quakers of the 20th century. The post-bac will scan materials, provide description and analysis of individual items of groups of items, rehouse materials, and update the collection finding aid.

The post-bac Fellow will focus on projects which build archival and digital scholarship skills to ensure that they are prepared for their next career steps, including the potential of entering graduate school. The post-bac will engage with the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the department.

This position reports to the Curator of Quaker Collections. The Fellow will join a dynamic and collaborative department of 4.5 FTE staff in Quaker & Special Collections. This is a two-year fellowship.

Specific duties:
  • Engages with Quaker collections in both physical and digital environments;
  • Scans materials from the collections, creates metadata, and uploads materials to our digital asset management system;
  • Collaborates with curators and members of the digital scholarship team on digital projects related to materials in Quaker & Special Collections;
  • Provides research assistance to patrons in the reading room and via email
  • Engages and supervises student worker colleagues;
  • Collaborates with library social media team to promote projects and materials from Quaker & Special Collections; and
  • Ensure that the College's commitment to diversity and inclusion is a priority particularly in the design and delivery of services provided to the campus.
Line of Report: This position reports to the Curator of Quaker Collections and may supervise student colleagues

Education, Training, & Experience:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Interest in history, libraries, religion, visual studies, or historical narratives;
Preferred :
  • Experience engaging with primary sources and interest in deepening and furthering those skills;
  • Capacity with digital tools, preferred.
Work Experience:
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.
  • Prior work that shows a commitment to teamwork, service to others, attention to detail, and a strong balance between quality and quantity of work.
  • Some experience with primary source material either through course work or internships.
