EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Term appointment, renewable each year

PRIMARY DUTY:  A nine-month teaching position responsible for providing instruction within the School of Communication & Mass Media. The successful candidate will teach lower and upper division courses in Advertising and Digital Media and develop/or restructure courses to match industry needs. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching within a comprehensive state University and engagement in student and University service.
A nine-month teaching position responsible for providing instruction in advertising (primary area of teaching), search engine optimization, social media strategies and UX and Analytics. A working knowledge of computer application software relevant to the discipline is expected. The individual will be expected to develop a practical hands-on program of teaching. The candidate should be versatile and motivated to be an integral part of a diversified and active teacher of mass media faculty. An M.A. or M.S. degree in journalism, mass communication or closely related field is required as well as demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and skills in written and oral communication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Candidates may be asked to teach at least one additional course in one of the following areas:
  • Social media principles with a client focus and writing social media content 
  • UX, including content flowcharts and wireframing, and Google Analytics
  • Basic media design principles, with an emphasis on information and communication design
  • Teach courses in advertising (intro to advertising, advertising case studies, advertising campaigns), and web publishing / search engine optimization
  • Participate in professional development
  • With the help of other digital media faculty, act as a liaison with other departments in the digital media interdisciplinary major
  • Have familiarity with multiple delivery systems, including blended, online, and distant learning formats
  • Have familiarity with advising students in undergraduate course programs and in application for graduate programs and employment opportunities
  • Have familiarity or experience working with diverse populations or completed coursework demonstrating understanding of diverse populations
  • Have familiarity with developing academic programs
  • Provide department service, including student organization assistance and sponsorship
  • Provide University service, including committee work
  • Have professional experience in any area of digital media preferable web publishing
  • Participate in creative/scholarly research in academic field
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS:
            Education:  M.A. or M.S. in journalism, mass media, advertising or closely related field
            Certification/License:  Driver’s license             
            Experience: Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and/or relevant experience in the field
            Skills:  Knowledge of computer operations and software as well as written and oral communication skills; high-level knowledge of User Experience (UX) principles, including content flowcharts and wireframing; high-level knowledge of Google Analytics
    Skills Helpful to Position: Adobe CC Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator; basic media design skills with emphasis on information and communication design; social media marketing principles with a client focus; writing social media content

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Consistent with Mass Media area goals, the candidate should be able to facilitate media development from conceptual design through content delivery. The School of Communication and Mass Media is a collegial, team-based modern academic environment with current video and audio equipment. Each faculty member has an individual office with internet access, and is provided a University laptop.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds
