About Bank Street

Bank Street College was founded over 100 years ago in the tradition of progressive education and is committed to learner-centered education based on sound developmental principles. The master's programs integrate direct experience with children, teachers, and families; exploration and examination of theory and research; and observation and reflection. Our curriculum supports the development of intellectual curiosity grounded in a social justice orientation.

About the Straus Center

The Straus Center for Young Children & Families was established in 2015 to conduct and promote practice-orientedpolicy-relevant, and equity committed research, with a particular concern for inequities and traumas produced by the interaction of racism, classism, sexisms, and ableism. We are seeking a dynamic, well-rounded researcher to assist in operationalizing an agenda that asks, What is the progressive early care and education of the 21st Century - and importantly - what are its in/equitable effects? More specifically, we investigate the implementation of efforts to:

  1. Professionalize Early Care and Education (Birth to Age 5), with particular attention on teaching and caring within the intersection of race, culture, language, dis/ability, gender, and social class
  2. Create Restorative Early Care and Education Systems, ones that are trauma-informed and, therefore, affirming of intersecting racial, cultural, linguistic, dis/ability, gender, and class identities
  3. Engage with Families and Communities in Culturally and Linguistically Responsive and Sustaining Ways

The overall purpose of this agenda is to use data to engage with educators, policymakers, and the general public in critical reflection and dialogue about needed practice and policy changes.

Bank Street College of Education is an equal opportunity employer.
