Primary Purpose and General Duties:

The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC), School of Education, is seeking to hire a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to implement research study protocols as directed by the Principal Investigator and or Project Director.

Established in 1983, the Virginia Commonwealth University RRTC provides resources for professionals, individuals with disabilities, and their representatives. Our team of nationally and internationally renowned researchers is committed to developing and advancing evidence-based practices to increase the hiring and retention for individuals with disabilities.

Counselors typically work independently or as a member of a team. They work under limited supervision, resolving most standard to moderately complex issues independently and referring highly complex or unique issues to a high level. Counselors typically report to a manager or director or in some areas may report to an administrator.

Typical duties include:

Collecting participant data and conducting analysis;

Assisting with product development including replication manuals, brochures, fact sheets, etc.;

Assisting with training, technical assistance, and other knowledge translation activities;

Conducting discovery/assessment process and implementing situational assessments for individuals with disabilities;

Engaging in business development designed to establish business partnerships for the promotion of employment of individuals with disabilities in integrated community settings;

Assisting individuals with disabilities in performing their job duties to meet employer standards.

Typical Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in related field and 0-3 years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU;

Experience working with individuals with disabilities;

Above average verbal and written communication skills;

Ability to build community partnerships;

Proven ability to carry out job duties in a professional manner, with a positive outlook and approach;

Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality;

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

Experience working with individuals with disabilities in areas of community-integrated competitive employment.

Salary Range: $39,900 - $42,000
