Position Description

The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner (A.R.C.P.) has completed the National Board for Respiratory Care, Registry examination (R.R.T.), and is experienced in both routine and advanced critical respiratory care. Practical knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system is required to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients receiving Respiratory Care. The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner must demonstrate clinical application and theoretical knowledge consistent with the current literature and accepted practice of the profession, in the principles of cardiopulmonary disease and appropriate treatment, over the life span of the patient.

Qualifications:

Respiratory Care Practitioner Advanced (U39)

Education/experience/licensing:

· Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), as recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

· Current, active State of Ohio Medical Board of Respiratory license.

· Certified in American Heart Association BLS; will accept American Red Cross at time of hire.

Communication and other skills:

· Shall be able to work all shifts with some rotation.

· Physical Requirements:

1. Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision, where applicable: constant 67-100%; 2. ability to hear, with or without aides: constant 67-100%; 3.ability to orally communicate: constant 67-100%; 4. good manual dexterity: constant 67-100%; 5. ability to push, pull, roll, transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally: constant 67-100%; 6.ability to stand/walk frequently: constant 67-100%; 7. ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently: constant 67-100%; 8. ability to perform CPR: constant 67-100%

Required Education/Experience/Licensing:

· Current, active State of Ohio Medical Board of Respiratory license.

· Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), as recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care required at time of hire.

· Certified in American Heart Association BLS; will accept American Red Cross at time of hire.

Required Education/Experience/Licensing:

· Eligible for the National Board for Respiratory Care Certification exam or is enrolled and in good standing in an A.M.A. approved respiratory care program – required.

· Current, active State Medical Board of Ohio License: Limited Permit – required

· Certified in American Heart Association BLS; will accept American Red Cross at time of hire.

Required Communication and other skills:

· Shall be able to work all shifts with some rotation.

· Physical Requirements:

1. Working Conditions:

Advance Respiratory Care Practitioner: The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner's primary work environment is in the acute care hospital of UTMC, performing the clinical activities, both routine and critical care, that are consistent with the professional practice of Respiratory Care. The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner may be exposed to hazardous or infectious materials or waste. Respiratory Care Certified Tech: The CRT’s primary work environment is in the acute care hospital of UTMC, performing the clinical activities, both routine and critical care, that are consistent with the professional practice of Respiratory Care. The CRT may be exposed to hazardous or infectious materials or waste. Respiratory Care Staff Tech: The Staff Technician’s primary work environment is in the acute care and rehab hospitals of UTMC, performing routine care that is consistent with the professional practice of Respiratory Care. The Staff Technician may be exposed to hazardous or infectious materials or waste.
