This is a recruitment for two positions:

Position 1: Portland Metro Workforce Training Center (994563) - 5600 NE 42nd Ave., Portland, OR 97218

Position 2: Willow Creek Center (994564) - 241 SW Edgeway Drive, Beaverton, OR 97006

During the next year Portland Community College will be transitioning Willow Creek Center and Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center into Opportunity Centers. Opportunity Centers are designed to reverse racial and economic disparities by providing career and education preparation and wrap-around support These potential students include adults returning to education after job loss, English language learners, student parents, first-generation students, community members from historically oppressed populations including immigrants and refugees, and others facing barriers to higher education. All who want to learn are welcomed, and PCC will meet them where they are.

Community Workforce Development Department is hiring two positions that will help individuals identify their career goals and create skill building plans that will help them reach those goals. These positions will develop and instruct workshops to expand the suite of Opportunity Center services that help people explore careers that provide opportunities for economic advancement and build the skills they need to succeed. Through a series of progressively engaged, no-cost workshops and courses, individuals develop skills, refine their career goals and create momentum through moments of success. One position will be housed out of Willow Creek Center and one will be housed out of Metro Workforce Training Center although they will both work collaboratively to offer services throughout Washington, Multnomah and Columbia Counties.

  • Experienced in effective career and education coaching approaches.
  • Experienced in developing curriculum, facilitating groups and instructing utilizing effective training techniques and adult learning theory.
  • Experienced delivering public presentations both in person and over video.
  • Demonstrated skill in operating a computer and various supporting software packages including development of marketing materials.
  • Experience defusing angry, hostile, or tense situations:
  • Demonstrated experience in recognizing opportunity and collaborating effectively within the department, across PCC and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated experience working with an ethnically, racially, and culturally diverse population. Experienced in prioritizing and managing multiple projects and work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Experienced in marketing programs through presentations in person and using electronic communication/ social media.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Social Science, Communications, or related field (experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis).

Two (2) years of professional experience in an educational or training environment is required.

Demonstrated experience working with college students, individuals from low-income communities, developmentally or physically disabled adults, or at-risk populations.

Position Grade 4 Starting Salary Expectations $53,461 to $55,335 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $53461 to $92706 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Occasional evening and weekend hours are required. Work is typically performed in an office/classroom environment both on-site and off-site. Incumbents regularly travel between campuses and remote sites, requiring the ability to drive and use of personal vehicle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Moderate physical exertion. Frequent standing or walking. Occasional lifting of equipment used in training that may weigh up to 30 lbs. Background Check Required Yes
