Minimum Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Media Arts, Advertising, Design, Communications, Journalism, Educational Media, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in managing projects and resources including managing timelines, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, and meeting milestones; and deliverables.
License/Certification Required
N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position will create and execute a marketing and communications plan that advances the College's mission to internal and external audiences. Some essential duties and responsibilities include:
Marketing and Communication:
  • Promote the outstanding achievements of the College's students, faculty, administration, and alumni; writing human interest stories and articles; creating newsletters; assisting with events; taking photos; provide oversight of the College's website and social media pages; and collaborating with university and regional press.
  • Provide leadership and vision for the College's strategic and integrated marketing and communication functions.
  • Ensure the “brand” image of the Beaver College of Health Sciences aligns and supports the Appalachian State University vision, mission, and values and resonates with faculty, staff, prospective and current students, alumni, and partners.
  • Ensure website, publications, and event content is relevant, accurate, outward-facing, and engaging for all stakeholders.
  • Ensure marketing strategies are developed that support the strategic plan.
  • Assist the Office of the Dean and Department Chairpersons in selecting and procuring minor graphic design elements needed for media, presentations, promotional products, etc.
  • Take photographs (or arranges for photographer) at meetings and events for college or departmental publicity, publications, website, PowerPoint presentations, or other promotional information used in college or department for either external or internal sources, including distribution to local, state, or national organizations.
  • Maintain or assist with updating (with current photos and information) the displays within the College buildings.

External Engagement:
  • Assist the Office of the Dean with planning and conducting various events and activities, such as College faculty/staff meetings, social events, Advisory Council meetings, award and recognition receptions, visits and tours by dignitaries, etc.
  • Assist the Office of the Dean and the Director of Development with various tasks to support fundraising and development efforts in the College, including donor-focused events and marketing materials.
  • Promote effective public relations activities and serve as the College's liaison to Communications/PR staff throughout the University.
  • Partner and collaborate with key leaders and other partners within the college and university such as the Development Director, and directors of the college's Institute and Clinics, to ensure external engagement is complementary and in support of college and university goals and strategies.
  • Collaborate in short- and long-term strategies, programs, and services to inspire giving among a vast array of stakeholders in support of the College's fundraising initiatives and philanthropic activities.
  • Assist in marketing, outreach, and donor stewardship initiatives to cultivate identity and create or expand relationships with external partners.

Analytics and Technology: ·
  • Create, schedules, and track content across social media platforms.
  • Provide oversight and general maintenance of website(s); dynamic content updates.
  • Researching and pursuing other online engagement opportunities that arise in this ever-changing field.
  • Track analytics to support key marketing and external engagement strategies.
  • Maintain expertise in the use of tools and technology associated with the production of multimedia objects and digital communications materials.

Office Effectiveness:
  • Manage and direct faculty/staff/students in support of marketing programs and events.
  • Relieve the Dean of administration detail by coordinating communications and enhancing processes.
  • Work with faculty and staff to review content, negotiate edits, changes and move approved content forward.
  • Assist in coordinating several events and activities for the Beaver College of Health Sciences, including Advisory Council Meetings, Faculty and Staff socials and events, yearly opening meetings, graduation ceremonies, etc.
  • Serve as a key advisor and collaborator to several events and activities for the Beaver College of Health Sciences, including scholarship receptions, lectures, alumni events, etc.
  • Assist the Office of the Dean and the Director of Development with various tasks to support fundraising and development efforts in the College, including donor-focused events and marketing materials.
  • Event management includes coordinating logistics – choosing dates, booking locations, inviting participants, etc., printing materials, promoting events, managing staff, monitoring timelines, and budgets, etc.
Suggested Salary Range $52,000-$55,000 Physical Demands of Position
