Job Summary/Basic Function
The Helms School of Government invites applicants for a cross-capable residential full time assistant professor in the criminal justice and pre-law programs. Successful applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching as well as a competence in coordinating and developing a residential undergraduate criminal justice and pre-law programs that focuses heavily on the intersection of theory and practice. Such applicants will be expected to draw upon theories and methodologies involved in criminal justice and law with a view toward applying them in real world situations. The successful candidate will teach both standard and custom courses, such as, but not limited to; introduction to criminal justice, criminology, constitutional law, criminal law, investigations, administration of justice, corrections, judicial process, interview and interrogation, logic and reasoning, jurisprudence, legal research and writing, and more. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have either a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice; Juris Doctorate; combination of a PhD in Criminal Justice and Juris Doctorate; or a master’s level degree and five or more years of specialized, professional experience in criminal justice. – Excellent research, writing and grammar skills – Strong organizational skills – Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information – Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of liberty university to a variety of business, government and community customers and associates. – Excellent mentoring and ministering skills. – Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs – Maintains records, files, and create expense reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical criminal justice and/or law practice experience; authorship in areas of criminal justice or law – previous undergraduate teaching experience – Demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching as well as a competence in coordinating and developing courses. – Experience using Canvas LMS
