Jefferson Community College was chartered in 1961 and is one of 64 campuses—and one of 30 community colleges—which comprise the State University of New York (SUNY) system; it is the only institution of higher education whose campus is within a 50-mile radius of the city of Watertown, NY. Supervised by SUNY, Jefferson offers a new A.O.S. applied business studies curricula, 16 A.A.S. career curricula, 22 transfer A.A. or A.S. curricula, and 9 certificate programs. The College has partnered with several four-year institutions to offer more than 17 bachelor’s and advanced degree programs locally. In the fall 2019 semester, Jefferson’s total headcount was 1,818 full-time and 1,630 part-time students.

The Vice President serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the institution and is responsible for administrative leadership for all academic activities of the College including development, implementation and assessment of credit, non-credit and workforce curricula and instruction, academic policies, the College’s library, full and part-time academic division faculty and staff, and institutional and programmatic accreditation.

Some of the key nature and scope of duties include:

  • Responsible for the development, planning, approval, and implementation of innovative programs, courses, and academic support services to meet the diverse and future needs of students, the College and the community.
  • Lead the academic division in the development, dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of a systematic and results-focused academic plan as a key component of the College’s comprehensive strategic plan and directs purposeful research, data evaluation & analysis to demonstrate effectiveness and a commitment to continuous improvement, learning and student success.
  • Act as liaison to SUNY’s Office of the Provost, New York State Education Department, and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and is responsible for the College’s accreditation activities including those related to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
