This position performs its duties on both the Kentfield and Indian Valley (Novato) campuses, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Instruction:
Provide comprehensive counseling services including academic, career and vocational, personal and transfer planning to current and prospective students. Teach counseling classes, including developing and providing curriculum that promotes student success. Consult with faculty regarding the development of program content and student learning objectives to meet transfer institution requirements. Maintain the College articulation programs, policies, and procedures as directed by the California Education Code, California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) regulations and standards, California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Curriculum Review Committee Guidelines and Standards. Assist students in gaining educational and career related information in achieving their immediate and long range academic and occupational goals. Use available technologies and assessment instruments with the ability to provide effective interpretation to students. Establish and maintain liaison activities with academic departments, administrative offices, student services offices, high school counselors, students, parents and the general public and to do related outreach and work, as required. Interact with a diverse student, staff and faculty population and demonstrate experience in the use of cross-cultural counseling skills.

ONLINE COUNSELING/INSTRUCTION
All faculty members must be available to provide counseling/instruction in the classroom and in person. Please note that the College does not offer online-only counseling/teaching assignments.
Essential Functions
ARTICULATION OFFICER
Develop, coordinate and maintain comprehensive articulation programs with UC, CSU, private colleges and universities, and colleges outside of California and liaison with the representative articulation staff of these institutions. Develop, maintain and provide oversight of college general education and transfer agreement/guarantee programs such as associate degree for transfer AS-T and AA-T, IGETC, the UC Transfer Course Agreement and CSU General Education Breadth. Provide consultation resource information to faculty, instructional deans/directors, and other college representatives on course and program articulation issues, especially as related to the review, revision and development of courses with transfer preparation and articulation potential. Maintain articulation files, prepare and disseminate curriculum and articulation reports as required by university and other collegiate organizations and systems. Research articulation and curriculum information to facilitate student transfer. Participate in college, district, regional and State articulation-related activities, research, and organizations to be informed of and to assure compliance with inter-segmental articulation changes and developments. Oversee and maintain articulation information on Articulation System Stimulating Interinstitutional Student Transfer (ASSIST). Communicate with college counseling and Transfer & Career Center staff to identify articulation needs and to implement provisions of State matriculation and transfer/articulation funding and grants.
ACADEMIC AND EDUCATIONAL PLANNING
Determine students' academic needs, assist students in developing educational plans for transfer, graduation and certificate requirements. Provide individual student appointments, workshops and group guidance courses. Participate in the implementation of transfer and matriculation processes. Complete formal and informal requests for evaluation of credit. Provide early alert and follow up intervention for students facing probation and disqualification or otherwise identified as at risk. Peripheral: refer students to other District and/or external support services for assistance, as appropriate to meet student needs.
INSTRUCTION
Be able to teach Counseling classes, lead workshops and seminars, including developing and providing curriculum for student success, presenting lectures and lessons, maintaining records of students' grades and attendance and review of current and appropriate texts. Assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short-term, non-credit or online courses).
PERSONAL COUNSELING
Provide counseling as needed to assist students dealing with personal issues that could interfere with their success in college. Peripheral: Provide referrals for students to college and external community mental health services and/or other assistance agencies appropriate for the student needs.
COLLEGE FACULTY AND DEPARTMENTS
Participate in department and college-wide committees. Work effectively, both independently and as a team member, with students, faculty, classified staff and administration. Establish and maintain productive working relationships and partner with other departments in the campus community. Communicate effectively via email to students to help resolve issues and concerns. Create working relationships with student organizations as well as campus staff to collaborate on program delivery.
COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
Initiate and execute programming and projects based upon the changing needs of students and the college community. Participate in collecting pertinent student and program data and in preparing performance / program review reports as needed. Be organized, service and team-oriented. Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively. Be able to work independently and effectively to manage multiple important priorities. Write effectively, including electronic communications, website content development and contributions to publications. Work flexible schedule to include evening hours and weekends, serving two campuses (Kentfield and Novato) and possible off-campus sites.

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet one of the following two sets of requirements:
SET ONE
1.) A Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development OR a California Community College Counselor Credential; OR the equivalent; AND
2.) A minimum of one (1) year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) demonstrated competence in professional counseling principles, practice and techniques for academic, career, transfer and vocational counseling in a higher education setting within the last five (5) years; AND
3.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

SET TWO
1.) A Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development AND a valid California license as a Marriage, Family and Child therapist; OR the equivalent;
AND
2.) A minimum of two (2) years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) demonstrated competence in professional counseling principles, practice and techniques for academic, career, transfer and vocational counseling in a California Community College within the last five (5) years; AND
3.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

Foreign degree credentials must be evaluated by a third party to determine the equivalent U.S. degree and major. Evaluations should provide the name of the institution attended, a description of your credentials, the major of study, and the U.S. equivalent for each credential. For a list of evaluating agencies, visit the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- If you satisfy the minimum educational requirement with a degree that was granted in the U.S., but your previous degree(s) was obtained from a foreign institution, you do not need to attach a Foreign Credential Evaluation (FCE) for your previous degree(s). You must, however, attach a copy of a (translated) transcript for the previous degree. For additional clarification of acceptable transcripts, please contact Human Resources.
- If your degree that satisfies the minimum educational requirement was obtained from a foreign institution, you must submit an FCE for that degree and any other foreign degrees leading up to it.
- If you are asserting equivalence (see the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty/Administrators) because your degree does not specifically match the minimum educational requirements as listed and any of your degrees was obtained outside the U.S., you must attach an FCE for your foreign degree(s).

BARGAINING UNIT & RETIREMENT PLAN
UPM - Full-time Faculty:
Counselors in this position classification are considered faculty and are represented by the United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT 1610). Faculty members are required to comply fully with the United Professors of Marin Collective Bargaining Agreement, including payment of union dues or charitable contributions. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. Full-time UPM employees are also members of the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS).
SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Exempt
Counselors are placed on the Faculty Salary Schedule. Please refer to the United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT) salary schedule our Human Resources web site for salary schedules. Step 14 is the highest entering step for permanent teachers new to the District. Salary placement is non-negotiable and is dependent upon verified background and experience.
