JOB SUMMARY:

Clemson University seeks an Assistant Director to join the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation -OTEI-, a teaching center that supports all instructors, departments, colleges, and Clemson University as a whole. OTEI envisions a focus on creating teaching excellence that positively influences student outcomes and works to support the Clemson University mission and strategic plan, ClemsonFORWARD, focused on Research, Engagement, Academic Core, and Living Environment. We aim to provide individual instructors, departments, and colleges with training and resources needed to implement successful teaching methods and create new courses and strategies through engaged, collaborative learning communities. A newly growing unit, OTEI is housed in the Watt Family Innovation Center. We are a highly collaborative unit, valuing personal and professional growth as individuals and as a team, and we operate as a research-based learning community. We value a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets, believing that a diverse teaching center is more creative, inclusive, and representative of our entire body of instructors.
This position engages in a broad range of activities integral to OTEI and Clemson's mission. We offer programs, courses, conferences, and workshop sessions that enhance instructors' own skills and experiences. To this end, the Assistant Director should be able to address and lead multiple projects, delivering programs and services with consistent infusion of equity and inclusive teaching practices. This position will work as part of the team in creating and leading programs such as course and assignment design, offering curricular development support, and support for institutional initiatives such as General Education revision. One area of focus for this position in particular is building professional learning communities for faculty at all levels -new, mid, and later career stages. This assistant director will develop, grow, and assess professional learning communities such as our Faculty Learning Communities program as well as look for opportunities for other communities.

This position will also encourage the growth of scholarly teaching, action research and SoTL -Scholarship of Teaching and Learning- and bring institutional resources to bear on these efforts. This position could collaborate with multiple units across campus, such as Engineering and Science Education, Institutional Assessment, Undergraduate Studies, Libraries and others. OTEI promotes TILT -Transparency in Learning and Teaching- and desires to raise awareness of multiple ways for faculty to participate in using formative feedback and data to improve courses and curriculum. Finally, this position supports instructors through individual consultation.

This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with an integrated, dynamic team, to support instructors at all levels / disciplines to attain teaching effectiveness and innovation in teaching. All our work is research-based, aimed at teaching in multiple modalities. We are seeking individuals who are self-motivated, team-oriented, organized, and creative, who can contribute unique perspectives, knowledge, and skills to the signature projects of OTEI and develop new growth areas.
