Southern Oregon University invites applications for the position of University Librarian. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the University Librarian will oversee staff, budgeting, library services, collections, physical space, technology adoption, strategic planning and assessment, fundraising, and the formation and maintenance of campus, community, and regional partnerships. The ideal candidate will be a visionary, collegial, experienced leader, with the proven ability to manage, develop, and forward the strategic vision of an academic research library, while successfully implementing operational details and managing staff. The University Librarian is responsible for overseeing all operations and services of the Hannon Library, including information literacy instruction, research services and tutoring, access services, web development and discovery, collection development, cataloging, government information resources, digital projects, special collections, open educational resources, and outreach.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Lead and Inspire. Working collaboratively,
develops and articulates the strategic mission of the library.
Fosters and promotes the innovative development of quality
resources, services and other library initiatives.
- Manage and Mentor in a Shared Governance
Environment. Manages and mentors library faculty and staff
members within a collegial system of shared governance. Fosters a
supportive work environment that inspires full investment in the
library mission.
- Oversee Library Budget and Building
Spaces. Oversees the administration of a complex
library budget. Plans effective fiscal resource management that
maximizes results with limited resources. Guides the development
and implementation of policies governing physical library
spaces.
- Assess. Leads and encourages assessment
activities at all levels. Collaboratively develops strategies to
improve programs.
- Advocate. Champions library resources and
services to the campus and community. Educates others about the
vital role the library plays in the university environment.
Endeavors to acquire external funding to support the
library.
- Engage Campus and Community. Engenders a dynamic, student-centered service environment. Demonstrates a deep commitment to diversity and intercultural goals of the institution. Seeks to engage the local and campus community through a variety of programming. Proactively solicits external support from donors and other sources.
