Job Description

Reporting directly to the TRIO Programs Director, the assistant director is responsible for assisting with the administration, implementation and continuation of the U.S. Department of Education funded Talent Search/ TRIO project. This project serves 680 participants in 24 middle and high schools within a two-hour radius of Blacksburg. The position is based in Blacksburg, but routinely travels to schools to meet with participants. Talent Search is dedicated to helping students pursue post-secondary education. Talent Search serves students who meet income eligibility guidelines, are potential first-generation college students, and/or demonstrate a need for services.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Education, Educational Administration, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
Relevant professional experience working for a federal TRIO program and/or similar educational access program
Experience with the college selection and enrollment process, including demonstrated knowledge of financial aid and financial literacy, academic and career advising, college admissions and selection processes
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with varied constituents, ranging from university administration, school personnel, to participants and their families

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to develop working relationships with persons of culturally diverse backgrounds, including disadvantaged and underrepresented students and their families
Experience working for educational programs that address the needs of income eligible, first generation college, and students with demonstrated need
Demonstrated ability to write and secure local, state and/or federal grants/proposals
