Job # 21-109

Close Date: Tuesday, January 18, 2022

(Job #21-109) Student Services Professional II, Major Based Peer Mentoring-Retention through Academic Mentoring Program Coordinator, $4,304 - $6,120. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Retention through Academic Mentoring Program Department. This position comes with an extensive benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, CalPERS retirement, Fee Waiver eligibility (reduced tuition on most CSU system classes), life insurance, and voluntary pre-tax health and dependent care reimbursement accounts. Additional benefits information can be found at https://hraps.humboldt.edu/employee-benefits.

The purpose of the new Major Based Peer Mentoring-RAMP (MBPM-RAMP) is to serve second year, third year, and new transfer students. MBPM-RAMP mentors help connect students with their academic department and support the development of an academic identity and sense of belonging within a particular major. They achieve this by working closely with the chair of their department in collaboration with staff from the Retention through Academic Mentoring Program (RAMP). In addition to providing support for students in over 19 departments across the three colleges, an additional purpose of MBPM-RAMP is to deliver intentional, structured guidance in the paraprofessional development of the 30 undergraduate students working as mentors. MBPM-RAMP is one of two peer mentoring units under the RAMP, the other being the First Year-RAMP, which serves incoming, first-time freshman students. The RAMP professional staff currently consists of the Director and the FY- RAMP Coordinator. FY-RAMP and MBPM-RAMP also employ Lead Mentors who are experienced mentors from the previous year and without whom, neither program could function. This small and dedicated group of individuals is committed to a student- centered approach in our work. The professional staff continuously examines the principles, practices and policies of the RAMP, striving to hold to a framework grounded in equity and anti-racism as the program works to serve its mentors and the students served by the mentors. As the RAMP grows, the professional staff look forward to welcoming new members to the team and working to evolve the new MBPM-RAMP effort.
