As a career coach, you will assist students with a wide variety of backgrounds throughout all phases of the career development process. You will meet with students 1:1 and in groups to help them reflect on their strengths, skills, and experiences, discover and explore career options, create personalized action plans for their professional development, utilize successful job and internship search strategies, and enhance their job search documents. In addition to meeting 1:1 with students, you will also be in charge of creating, coordinating, and implementing career-development programs for students in one or more Colleges.
Please note we are hiring multiple coaches and are looking for candidates who have a background or preference in one or more of the following areas.  In your cover letter, please indicate for which of these areas you would like to be considered (you can be considered for multiple areas):

  • Veteran Support: This coach works closely with the U’s Veterans Support Center and is the primary coach for the U’s veteran students.
  • Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion: While all our coaches serve the U’s diverse student body, this coach has additional responsibilities to promote the accessibility and use of our office’s services by under-represented students.
  • STEM: This coach will work specifically with students studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

COMPENSATION:             $47,000 to $49,000

 

WORK SCHEDULE:           Full Time, Hybrid work schedule currently in place with 3 days on-site & 2 days remote/virtual. Work schedule is subject to situational changes and future institutional limitations/policies 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In regards to Career Coaching, this individual will:

  • Prepare and assist students in the discovery and decision-making process of career development.
  • Guide students through self-assessments (if certified), identify available resources and assist students with career research.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of programs and workshops to further engage students in the career development process. The successful candidate will be skilled at assisting students with all aspects of the career development and planning process.
  • Supervise and evaluate a caseload of student internships providing guidance in learning goals and career development assignments

Responsibilities:

  • Assists students with preparing resumes, interviewing skills and searching for jobs & internships electronically.
  • Develops programs and events and facilitates multiple workshops.
  • Collaborates with our Outreach & Engagement Team to interact with employers in recruiting students and alumni. Joins site visits to employers to develop and promote internships and career opportunities.
  • Conducts ongoing research for students and campus partners to provide information and feedback about recruitment and after-graduation activities via our First Destination survey.
  • Reviews reports on job placement, salaries, recruitment activities and other information, to assist students in their career exploration.
  • Coordinates activities between Career & Professional Development Center and one or more Academic/University Partners.
  • Helps students from a wide variety of backgrounds navigate complex challenges in their career development. Offers understanding and resources to help them research options and develop individualized solutions, as they make life-changing decisions.

Each coach must be knowledgeable of employment laws and ethical standards for hiring and recruiting. QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science, Communication, Counseling, Human Resources or a related field plus three years of experience in occupational or career counseling or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in a related area is preferred. Training and experience in basic testing and measurement is preferred. Experience with career counseling in the assigned area may also be preferred.

Department Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, with strong preference for Master’s degree, plus three years of experience in career coaching/counseling or equivalency required. 
  • Experience in teaching, training, and presentations; demonstrated self-management, multitasking, independent work, and initiative; strong communication skills, partnership building, teamwork, and a commitment to foster an inclusive environment.

 

PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • At least 1-year experience working outside of higher education (government, industry, non-profit) is preferred.
  • Training and experience in self-assessments (e.g., MBTI, StrengthsFinder, Strong Interests Inventory, etc.) are preferred.
