General Statement of Job

The Early Childhood Teacher oversees and instructs students in a classroom setting. This position utilizes innovative and effective teaching methods to enhance the knowledge and skills of students in the class.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Creates lesson plans for classroom teaching activities.

Creates a classroom environment that is nurturing to the total development of a child.

Conducts daily attendance checks.

Maintains developmental record for children assigned to their classroom.

Interviews student worker candidates who upon hire will be assigned to the teacher’s classroom and maintains the student worker files.

Supervises Teacher Education early childhood majors assigned to the teacher’s room for clinical field experience during practicum.

Interacts with and provides classroom tour for the parents of children who are of age to be assigned teacher’s classroom in the early childhood program.

Educates the children enrolled in the center in the areas of cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development.

Twice annually the teacher will create and distribute and/or make available to the center director the educational progress reports on the children in their classroom for distribution to center parents.

Attend staff meetings and workshops to meet 12 hour minimum required by licensing guidelines.

Implements the food program; by assisting with records keeping, preparation and/or serving of meals and snacks.

Performs other related duties as required.

Assists the director in any project that is assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.

Minimum one year experience required for this position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Teaching certification required for this position is preferred but not required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, texture perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to smell and taste.
