Portland Community College is searching for an Education Professional to join our team as part of our Full Time Faculty. The Education Department is a dynamic program offering opportunities for students to begin their career in education as a paraeducator or a licensed teacher. PCC partners with several four-year institutions to create seamless pathways to teacher licensure. PCC is also a partner in two Grow Your Own grants with a focus on increasing diversity in the educator workforce.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.
  • Strong skills in teaching students and implementing best practices in teaching based on research and experience in either an in person or online environment
  • Deep understanding of issues related equitable access to education whether as an educator or a student and the importance of diversifying the career field including initiatives such as “Grow Your Own” to address this issue
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and student-centered practices and the ability to infuse those concepts in your teaching
  • Strong collaboration skills with other faculty and community partners in order to meet program and/or grant goals
  • Bilingual English / Spanish and possess the ability to teach courses fully in Spanish
  • Implement strategies in PCC learning environments that support the YESS initiatives at PCC
  • Applies instructional expertise and a deep understanding of Culturally Responsive Education theory and praxis to improve the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

Instructional Assistant/Library Media Instructor
  • Master’s Degree in subject area, such as education, library, media
OR
  • Master’s Degree in any related area
  • Plus 2 years of a combination of teaching and non-teaching work experience in the field
Media Instructor
Same requirements as Assistant/Library Media Instructor
OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in subject area
  • Plus 3 years of a combination of teaching and on-teaching work experience in the field
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Plus 4 years of a combination of teaching and non-teaching work experience in the field
OR
  • AAS Degree in subject area or professional education
  • Plus 5 years of a combination of teaching and non-teaching work experience in the field
OR
  • Demonstrate competency with a minimum of 30 quarters of upper division course work in the subject area
  • Plus 5 years of combination of teaching and non-teaching work experience in the field

Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be up to Step 3 ($62,665) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Position Grade Salary Range $58780 to $99564 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:
  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
