Job Summary/Basic Function:

Summary
The SMART Program Coordinator plays an essential role serving multiple functions in the campus community focusing on the prevention, education, and reporting of issues on sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, and stalking. This position will serve as the Program Coordinator for the college’s Office on Violence Against Women ( OVW ) Campus Grant. In this function, the Program Coordinator will liaison with other programs, agencies, and departments to accomplish OVW grant program objectives and will provide administrative support for all grant-related activities. This is a grant-funded position through October 2022.

Responsibilities of the Program Coordinator: Sexual and Gender-based Violence Prevention and Education include, but are not limited to, the following:

Office on Violence Against Women ( OVW ) Grant Coordinator
  • Coordinate with Project Director to ensure compliance and adherence to OVW Campus Grant proposed initiatives and requirements.
  • Collaborate with campus community partners to develop and/or monitor OVW Campus Grant proposed initiatives and goals.
  • Gather and develop data collection for OVW Campus Grant and related activities, including training and programmatic outcome and attendance data, expense reporting data, and assessment data.
  • Write and submit all reports as required by OVW and the Department of Justice ( DOJ ), including semi-annual progress reports.
  • Participate in and coordinate a team to attend bi-annual technical training workshops and webinars as mandated by OVW .
  • Receive and process budget and expense reports with coordination and oversight by the Project Director and the college’s Finance Office.
  • Manage all communication, approvals, and documentation with the OVW Program Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Healthy Masculinity Coordinator.
  • Assess all initiatives related to the grant and deliver data in an informed and meaningful way.


SMART Office and Coordinated Campus Response Team Leadership
  • Provide leadership for the interdepartmental Sexual Misconduct and Assault Resource Team ( SMART ) and the Coordinated Community Response Team ( CCRT ).
  • Participate in meetings with the Chief of Campus Safety, Dean of Students, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Title IX Coordinator to discuss campus climate and best approaches to addressing sexual misconduct.
  • Recruit, manage, and develop participation in CCRT to maintain a diverse, engaged, and informed working group.
  • Lead monthly interdepartmental CCRT meetings for the purpose of planning outreach and education strategies, gaining campus buy-in, and engaging in dialogue around sexual and gender-based misconduct prevention.
  • Maintain a general record of SMART activities, recommend changes, and give advanced communication to appropriate administrators.
  • Hire and supervise two student employees.
  • Train and supervise at least two peer educators to educate other students on topics such as bystander intervention, consent, sexual and domestic violence, stalking, healthy relationships, and sexuality.
  • Provide support and supervision for student-led programs and training.
  • Collaborate and provide program guidance for the healthy masculinity project coordinator.
  • Serve as the advisor for the Sexual Health Advocacy Group.


Sexual Misconduct Awareness and Prevention Programming and Training
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement prevention education and awareness programs on sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and bystander intervention, consent, and healthy relationships.
  • Support community training around Wheaton’s policies and procedures related to Sexual and Gender-Based, Bias, Community Standards and reporting options, and supportive resources.
  • Coordinate events that are survivor-centered and support the care and healing of survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence.
  • Collaborate with both the Center for Social Justice and Community Impact, Counseling Center, Health Services, and student groups to create a holistic approach to sexual violence prevention.
  • Support wellness initiatives on campus by partnering with other offices and student groups.
  • Create an office environment that is widely perceived by the community as being a trauma-informed, welcoming space to access education and resources.
  • Research emerging best practices and coordinate efforts to maintain a sustainable and comprehensive program.
  • Maintain a general record of office activities, recommend changes, and give advanced communication to appropriate administrators.
  • Develop and increase passive programming presence via print and electronic/social media to increase dialogue and awareness.
  • Schedule and lead student advocacy coalition to meet monthly for the purposes of planning programs and awareness activities, and providing members with in-service training.
  • Research emerging best practices and coordinate efforts to maintain a sustainable and comprehensive program.
  • Coordinate and provide logistical support for annual Advocacy training facilitated by community partner, New Hope, open for all members of the Wheaton community.
  • Assist with coordination of training for campus first responders, and informative sessions for the community.


Student Reporting and Response
  • Serve as a resource on campus for students to access support for sexual, interpersonal, and gender-based misconduct.
  • Facilitate initial safety planning and refer students to the appropriate resources so that they may receive the accommodations, interim measures, or support measures they need to feel safe.
  • Connect students to on and off-campus resources based on their needs.
  • Provide educational intervention and resources when appropriate.
  • Report relevant information to be in compliance with the Clery Act.


Title IX Compliance
  • In collaboration with The Title IX Coordinator coordinate, facilitate, assess, and document Bystander Intervention and Community Values & Sexual Misconduct Policies and Reporting training for all students in each incoming first-year class of students during August and January new student orientation programs and any additional make-up sessions as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with Title IX Coordinator to meet the requirements for education and outreach on campus including training, programs, and educational materials.
  • Ensure that information on reporting options and college response are effectively and accurately communicated to the Wheaton community via print and digital media.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in topics of sexual misconduct and gender-based violence with traditionally-aged college students on a small residential campus.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse range of constituents (staff, faculty, parents, off-campus providers, etc.).
  • Understanding of student development theory and current best practices in outreach and education.
  • Ability to work well with college students and be perceived as trustworthy, empathic, and clear in setting/communicating expectations in accordance with policies/procedures.
  • Ability to conduct educational programs and training workshops.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidance including Title IX, VAWA /Campus SAVE, and Clery.
  • Strong organizational skills and evidence of an ability to lead and coordinate in a group setting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent skills in collaboration and interpersonal relationship development.
  • Excellent administrative skills and project management efficiency.
  • Willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in social work, gender studies, or other field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in outreach and prevention education is desired.
