POSITION: Assistant Professor of Practice in Computer Science
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in Computer Science. The position is for an initial three-year contract with the possibility of further renewal. Applicants should be broadly trained in computer science and have a passion for teaching in a setting of liberal arts and professional education. All areas of specialization will be considered. The successful applicant should be highly engaged and innovative in the classroom, committed to working both in and outside of class, and have a strong commitment to all aspects of diversity in our learning-centered community. Applicants should be capable and willing to mentor senior research students and provide academic advising.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An advanced degree in Computer Science or related field is
required, with significant industry experience or teaching
experience (beyond the TA level) strongly preferred. Extensive
experience in software development in multiple languages as well as
experience leading software development teams is particularly
valued. Candidates must have strong communication skills, with a
demonstrable ability to articulate complex topics effectively to
undergraduate students at all levels. Candidates should also
demonstrate an interest and ability to engage undergraduate
students in research.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The teaching load is seven courses per academic year (three in one
semester and four in the other semester). The successful candidate
should be able to teach any of the courses in the introductory
sequence as well as a variety of upper-division courses based on
the candidate's expertise. Courses taught may include offerings for
the University’s requirements in General Education, including First
Year Seminars and Junior Seminars. All majors in the College of
Arts and Sciences complete a year-long Senior Research Project.
Advising and mentoring senior research students is expected. We are
also interested in candidates who have experience working with
students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to
improving access to higher education for students from
underrepresented groups. Other responsibilities include student

THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers
undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Cybersecurity and
Computer Information Systems (https://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/programs.php#undergrad).
The Department integrates software engineering into a rigorous,
research-oriented undergraduate program. This combination prepares
students for either graduate study in Computer Science or a career
in the software development industry. We emphasize small classes
and investigative research in and out of the classroom.
THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES:
Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (http://www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/)
is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and
schools. With nineteen academic departments and nine
interdisciplinary programs, the College is the liberal arts core of
the University; it includes the humanities, social sciences,
natural sciences, education, and creative arts. A great strength of
the College is its faculty of approximately 140 full-time
teacher-scholars. The College offers 31 undergraduate majors and 34
undergraduate minors; six graduate degrees are offered in
Education, Counselor Education, and Creative Writing. Every

SALARY: Salary is competitive.
