Purpose of Position
The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a Non-Tenure-Track Renewable ( NTTR ) position teaching piano, overseeing the piano pedagogy degree track, and coordinating the keyboard area within the Music Program, beginning Fall 2022. The Piano Pedagogy track is designed to help pianists and teachers develop skills in the art of teaching piano and in operating a financially successful independent teaching studio. Curriculum is structured to the study of teaching materials and approaches for students at all levels and in all age groups from preschool children to adults in retirement. Pedagogy classes are interactive and include teaching demonstrations by faculty and students, guest lectures and field trips to independently owned music schools for observation. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, program and school-level service, and academic mentoring. As a NASM accredited program, teaching responsibilities adhere to loads as prescribed by NASM .

The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University offers a wide array of degree programs in the visual and performing arts. The Music Program within the School of the Arts offers a BME in Music Education (Choral/Vocal and Instrumental), a BM in Performance (Instrumental, Jazz Studies, Piano Pedagogy, and Voice) a BM in Composition, and a BA in Music (Liberal Studies and Audio Production). · Teaching, inventory, scheduling, and curriculum for the class piano courses
· Applied piano instruction
· Provide leadership for the Bachelor of Music Performance – Piano Pedagogy degree
· Oversee the piano lab
· Maintenance and supervision of the department piano inventory
· Encourage, recruit and retain a diverse student and faculty population
· Maintain a commitment to excellence in performance Qualifications
  • Masters degree in piano performance or pedagogy is required. The candidate must have the degree in hand prior to the beginning of the teaching responsibilities or August 2022. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with a Doctorate degree. (PhD – DM – DMA )
  • The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the recruitment and retention of a diverse student and faculty population.
  • The candidate must demonstrate experience in organization and leadership. Additional consideration will be given to teaching and/or leadership responsibilities at the collegiate level.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching. Applicant must demonstrate an acumen to applied instruction. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with group piano instructional experience.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a high level of performance ability and experience in either piano solo work or accompaniment.
