Job Description

Teaching (65%)
Teaching three courses each in Fall and Spring semesters in the Master and/or Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programs at the KU Edwards Campus (KUEC). Teaching responsibilities include curriculum development, instructional design, virtual classroom management, grading and teaching improvement in relation to student and colleague feedback. Faculty are responsible for keeping curriculum up-to-date and engaging with external organizations to ensure relevance to a variety of workplace needs. Provide adequate means to evaluate student performance, including examinations and assignments (such as papers, presentations, etc.) and grading.

Professional Service (35%)
Professional service includes actively engaging in promoting the programs; enhancing and improving its curriculum; engaging in scholarly pedagogical and professional development activities; mentoring students; and collaborating with faculty and staff at the KUEC in promotional activities.

  1. Master's degree in information technology, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline at the time of joining the department. A Master's degree in other fields may be considered if combined with two or more years of professional experience directly relevant to the teaching assignment.
  2. Five (5) years or more practical experience in information technology.
Rank of position will be determined based upon years of qualified experience.
  • Five (5) years qualified experience for Assistant Professor of the Practice
  • Ten (10) years qualified experience for Associate Professor of the Practice
  • Fifteen (15) years qualified experience for Full Professor of the Practice

Position Overview

The University of Kansas Edwards Campus (KUEC) seeks an outstanding individual for a non- tenure track faculty Professor of the Practice to join extensive and increasing programs in the area of information technology. Depending on years of experience in the IT industry, an appointment may be offered at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of the Practice. We seek individuals with industry experience in the information technology field who have exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to educate and develop future information technology professionals. The ideal candidate will have a developed teaching philosophy and a demonstrated desire to inspire students and encourage lifelong learning in information technology.

Program needs are particularly great in the following areas: system administration, system integration, IT project management, software engineering/management, health care IT, and cloud computing. This faculty position will teach in the Master and/or Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programs. The programs are offered at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas in the School of Professional Studies as online.

This position serves the educational needs of a JCERT program. Specific percentages of effort for JCERT are determined each year.

The Professor of the Practice appointment is an Academic Year appointment with an initial term of 3 years; and a course load of 3 classes each Fall and Spring Semester. Subsequent appointment may be offered, contingent upon a satisfactory comprehensive performance evaluation during the final academic year of this appointment and approval of the Dean of the School of Professional Studies.
