Total compensation includes a health insurance plan.

Position Description
The Chief of Staff to the Chancellor assists the Chancellor in carrying out administrative policies and executive orders as formulated by the Board of Trustees and Chancellor; consults with departments and administrative heads on investigations and recommendations regarding major administrative problems, new programs, activities and services, and provides supervision of Chancellor's staff.

The Chief of Staff is responsible for administrative oversight for selected special projects requiring broad-based institutional and community organizations by ensuring that projects are completed as proposed, meeting timeline goals and projections in conjunction with and in support of senior staff as well as assist the Chancellor with internal operations of the college. In addition, the Chief of Staff represents. Occasional evening and weekend work required. The Chief of Staff is expected to observe the high standards required of staff servicing the Chancellor's Office, maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism while performing required duties.

Job Duties
1. Manage and coordinate the daily operations of the offices of the Chancellor; advise the Chancellor on time sensitive issues important to the District; prioritize, coordinate, oversee, and evaluate that the flow of work is performed in a timely and accurate manner; form and convey independent decisions within scope of authority.

2. Acts as liaison between the senior staff, the public and inter-departmental personnel and the Communications Team for the Chancellor and Board of Trustees; interpret, clarify and /or communicate directives, policies, and procedures to appropriate parties and agencies; attend a variety of meetings.

3. Assists the Chancellor in the identification of administrative and organizational problems by responding to inquiries regarding academic programs, course offerings, and student rights and assists in the solutions to these problems.

4. Plans, analyzes, and coordinates the development and implementation of administrative policies and procedures and reviews existing operational policies and procedures for compliance with federal, state , and local regulations and the goals of the District; prepares recommendations for final review of the Chancellor.

5. Plans, organizes, and implements special projects on behalf of the Chancellor.

6. Oversees administrative evaluation data collection and prepares administrative reports.

7. Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and events on behalf of the Chancellor and/or the District. Serves on internal and external committees and assists organizations with issues related to education, District policies and procedures, and regulations affecting the District.

8. Reviews incoming reports and correspondence for referral distribution.

9. Research issues and concerns regarding administrative, educational, and economic matters; maintain records of federal, state, and local legislation affecting District operations; consults with administrative and professional staff (particularly the Office of Government Relations) on procedural changes made necessary by legislative action.

10. Assists in budget development and oversight, recommending budget revisions and expenditures related to office personnel, and office supplies.

11. Prepares reports, position papers, analysis and data for distribution to elected officials, community representatives, student organizations, local unions, institutional leaders and/or general public. This requires establishing links with governmental agencies, private businesses, and neighborhood groups.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned Master's Degree from an accredited institution and one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.

Desirable Qualifications
1. Demonstrated experience in planning and directing the functions, procedures and staffing of an office; knowledge about the different operational departments of the District, e.g. General Counsel, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Facilities, Student Services, Academic Affairs, etc.

2. Excel in the utilization and demonstrate proficiency in various software applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

3. Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals from multiple institutions and governmental organizations in a positive and diplomatic manner.

4. Knowledge of organizational structure processes and behavior dynamics, especially in community colleges.

5. Ability to work under pressure and strict timelines.

6. Excellent strategic communication skills (written and oral), problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently, and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
