Faculty and Department Chair, Film and Media Arts
BACKGROUND: Temple’s Film and Media Arts Department, a leader in documentary, independent narrative,
and media arts, is acknowledged as a "nationally and internationally recognized program with
a distinct identity of independent filmmaking and a history of producing socially conscious
filmmakers." The department offers a cross-disciplinary mix of theory and practice including
hybrid and digital arts production, as well as an innovative MFA/PhD program. The successful candidate must be dedicated to the department’s vision, to integrating its
range of media and scholarly approaches, and should fulfil one of the department’s hiring
priorities in Cinema and Media Studies, Cinematography, Documentary and/or Narrative Film
Direction, Post/Sound, Screenwriting, or VR/AR or Animation.
Film and Media Arts is especially interested in candidates who will actively

POSITION: Full-time senior appointment in Film and Media Arts – Department Chair
RANK/SALARY: Associate or Full Professor, Tenured or tenure-track appointment in Film and Media Arts. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as Associate Professor or Professor of Film and Media Arts and department chair, which include duties such as review of and mentoring of faculty for promotion and tenure, class scheduling, faculty assignments, mentoring new faculty, and oversight of budgets; teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Film and Media Arts related to the candidate’s expertise; cultivate and maintain relationships with professional associations and area schools/teachers to facilitate visibility and recruitment; maintain visible profile and active program of scholarly and/or creative activity; engage in appropriate service to the College, the University, and the profession.
QUALIFICATIONS: MFA, PhD, or equivalent professional experience required. Administrative experience at the college/university level and/or successful professional experience in the industry will be considered. Outstanding scholarly or artistic accomplishments, particularly in areas of diversity and social justice, as well as a vision for leadership that centers on collaboration, innovation, principles of ADEI, and a commitment to the department’s mission. Established reputation as a film maker and/or film scholar, administrator and/or industry leader, and teacher with a consistent record of creativity and/or scholarship required. In addition to serving as chair, the successful candidate would teach in areas of his/her/their specialization. The department strongly encourages applications by women and minority candidates.
