Summary/Objective

This position is primarily responsible for the implementation of the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program (Humphrey Program) in cooperation with the Faculty Director of the Humphrey Fellowship Program (Humphrey Program).and the Associate Director of International Legal Studies Program (ILSP) In addition, this position oversees the staffing and programmatic needs of the U.S. and International Anti-Corruption Certificate Law program (AC Program) and the Trade, Investment & Development (TID) Program.

Oversees the five years Humphrey Fellowship Program with a yearly budget of at least $250,000.00. Handles a weekly average of 15-20 telephone/virtual platforms inquiries and 50-100 written responses to office inquiries. During an academic year, coordinates 10-15 Humphrey Fellows and oversees and conducts administrative tasks as needed for the AC and TID summer program, the Menaker Initiative, the Wenger Lecture and other grant, and events organized during the year.

This position serves as the primary liaison with the funders of the Humphrey program, including the Department of State and Institute of International Education. When necessary, this position will represent WCL and the Director of the Hubert Humphrey Program at high-level meetings with donors. This position will organize and coordinate all on and off campus activities of the Humphrey Program including activities with other AU schools and departments. This position will establish relationships with high-level representatives of institutions in Washington, DC and elsewhere in the United States, which will serve as host organizations for Fellows’ Professional Affiliations and will help in turn enhance our profile with potential employers for our graduates. In addition, this program will manage the Humphrey budget, monitor expenditures, and be the point of contact with OSP, WCL Office of Finance and our donors. This position will be responsible for working with other Humphrey host universities throughout the United States to engage in cross-campus collaboration and tailor made leadership related workshops. This position will be responsible for obtaining funding for such cross campus collaboration

Essential Functions
  1. Humphrey Fellowship Program: Administer and lead all aspects of the Humphrey Fellowship Program in cooperation with the Principal Investigator/Faculty Director of the Humphrey Fellowship Program. In conjunction with the Director of Humphrey Program, act as the representative and primary point person for the WCL Humphrey Program. Support the Humphrey Seminar in coordination with the Director of the Humphrey Program. Manage the Humphrey budget, monitor expenditures, and be the point of contact with OSP, WCL Office of Finance and donors. Plan and oversee the three-week arrival orientation period, site visits, and community engagement; Organize and coordinate all on and off campus activities of the Humphrey Program, including activities with other AU schools and departments. Establish relationships with high-level representatives of institutions in Washington, DC and elsewhere in the United States, which will serve as host organizations for Fellows’ Professional Affiliations and host Fellows for professional development visits to build network and collaboration white Fellows are in the US and after they return home. Responsible for working with other Humphrey host universities throughout the United States to engage in cross-campus collaboration and tailor-made leadership related workshops and obtaining funding for such cross campus collaboration. Work with an associate campus in the area to promote additional cultural and academic exchange; Serve as the primary liaison with the funders of the Humphrey program, including the Department of State and Institute of International Education. When necessary, represent WCL and the Director of the Hubert Humphrey Program at high-level meetings with donors; Responsible for drafting programmatic mid-year and year-end reports to the donors and for attending to donor’s requests throughout the year; Facilitate efforts of Humphrey Fellows to arrange Professional Development activities and Professional Affiliations by engaging with high-level representatives of institutions in the area. Meet regularly with the Fellows to discuss their program plans as the year evolves.
  2. U.S. and International Anti-Corruption Certificate Law program; Trade, Investment & Development Program: Oversee the activities organized by two programs: the Anti-Corruption Program and Trade, Investment & Development Program by working closely with the program coordinators and by coordinating with the Programs Directors the activities that need to be performed by the program, including conferences, special events and summer programs.
  3. Other Duties: Coordinate with Associate Director of ILSP to coordinate some activities of the Humphrey Fellows with the LLMs and other international students, visiting scholars etc.

Required Education and Experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Juris Doctor or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Requires excellent written, verbal and inter-cultural and interpersonal communication skills; human rights experience highly desirable; knowledge of international education programming and J-1 visa issues and grant administration experience is preferred. Reading, writing, and speaking knowledge of second language desired. Must be excited and have experience with promoting cross-cultural connections.
  • This position requires an organized, responsible and experienced person who is capable of working with minimal supervision. The successful employee is highly motivated and networks well with university and local community to promote the Humphrey Occasional weekends and evening will be requested.
