Job Summary

The Office of Engineering Communications and Marketing seeks to hire a communications and marketing specialist to advance development and marketing initiatives in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering . The successful candidate will work in a team environment to enhance day-to-day departmental, programmatic, and campaign-specific strategies within the college. Applicants must have a command of both strategic and tactical communications and marketing approaches, as well as talent for effective storytelling as a means of furthering the college’s development and fundraising goals.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating fundraising proposals; case statements; writing and editing news items and related donor communications; creating, ordering and working with vendors on donor recognition pieces; writing scripts for videos and in-person events, etc.
  • Collaborating with a graphic designer and producer/director to create materials to be used by the college’s Office of Development.
  • Creating and maintaining development-related web and social media content, as well as overseeing a wide range of communications projects.

Level I requires a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline appropriate to the position with no experience required.

Level II requires a Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to the position plus 2 years experience in marketing and communications services to include print and digital journalism.

Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to the position plus 4 years experience in marketing and communications services to include print and digital journalism.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

The candidate is expected to be fluent in AP Style for both digital and print platforms, from the generation of content to the coordination of layout and production with graphic artists and web designers. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of public relations, communications, and graphic design principles; audience segmentation; social media management; communications and marketing planning, execution, and evaluation.
Must demonstrate a willingness to stay on top of the latest technologies and build on existing skills.

Desired Qualifications

Proficient in AP Style, writing and editing of news, feature, technical, web and advertising content; project management of a variety of print, web and social media projects; proven ability to work with others. Some photography experience is helpful. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe CC software, including InDesign, or similar is also desired. Extensive experience in the areas previously noted, in campaign communications (highly desired), development communications and/or proposal writing/editing in a higher education setting.
