Summary of Job Duties:The program director will have full-time responsibility for the administration and evaluation of the program and ultimately for the program’s success. The program director will plan, direct, and manage the SSS STEM program, working to build its effectiveness and visibility while also collaboratively integrating the program with numerous support services at the university. The program director serves as the grant liaison among the university programs and services needed for successful implementation of this SSS program, and the director will work in line with the Division of Student Success and other TRIO Directors to support a shared vision for successful outcomes. The position will report to the Assistant Provost for Student Success & Retention. This position is governed by the policies of the institution.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in college student personnel, educational administration, developmental studies, or another academic discipline with strong job-related experience
  • Three years of administrative experience in an educational setting
  • Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these basic requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities
  • Broad academic background and experience in case management and student tracking
  • Preference given to individuals who are former TRIO participants or who have overcome barriers similar to the TRIO student population
  • Experience in academic needs assessment and analysis
  • Experience administering TRIO or other federal grant programs
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Direct program staff in the planning, development, and implementation of the program’s activities and services.
  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate all program personnel.
  • Serve as member of the Student Success & Retention team, collaborating on institutional initiatives, research, and professional development.
  • Administer, coordinate, and ensure compliance requirements and grant management; submit grant documents and reports.
  • Oversee, authorize, and monitor expenditures of federal funds.
  • Establish and enforce all project policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the SSS STEM recruitment and student selection process.
  • Review participants’ contracts and monitor progress to provide support services.
  • Monitor students’ registration and degree plans through graduation.
  • Ensure equal access to program services for all students.
  • Provide intrusive academic, career, and financial aid advisement.
  • Coordinate accommodations for SSS STEM students with special needs.
  • Conduct and disseminate research on the program’s effectiveness.
  • Serve as a primary institutional advocate to promote student success.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of federally funded programs for economically disadvantaged students.
  • Knowledge of designing, implementing, and evaluating academic/diagnostic programs and activities.
  • Knowledge of relevant software programs, including Microsoft Office (e.g. Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and student information systems.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking.
  • Knowledge of student developmental needs, plus the ability to present on basic core curriculum, study skills, test-taking, financial management, and life skills.
  • Ability to articulate and work positively with diverse populations.
  • Strong management, supervision, and team-building skills.
  • Organizational and detail-oriented competencies.
Salary Information:

$52,500-$54,200/year

Working Relationships: The program director works closely with program staff, faculty/staff at the university, and other members of the Division of Student Success & Retention.

Special Job Dimensions: Work performed primarily in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Required abilities include walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Visual demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 10 pounds. Occasional travel may be required. Extended hours occasionally required. Continued funding from the Department of Education is dependent on the level of performance of the program in relation to the objectives stated in the grant proposal.
