Department Summary
The Office of the Vice President for Research & Innovation (OVPRI) promotes excellence in research at the University of Oregon. Research, both basic and applied, is fundamental to the mission of the University and is essential to Oregon's economic and civic vitality. The office is committed to enhancing these efforts by providing administrative and financial support for sponsored programs, including identification of funding opportunities, proposal submission, research compliance, and contracts and grant administration.
OVPRI supports interdisciplinary research centers and essential core facilities, and emboldens innovation and economic development through strategic partnering and technology transfer initiatives. The UO has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research that continues through the production of new knowledge and innovative solutions to society's grand challenges.
Research Compliance Services (RCS) supports and protects the interests of the University, faculty, staff, students and human research subjects in research compliance matters through guidance, education, and technical assistance. RCS is responsible for Human Subject Protections, Financial Conflict of Interest in Research (FCOIR), and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) programs. In addition, RCS provides administrative support in cases of alleged Research Misconduct and other research compliance matters.
Position Summary
The Research Compliance Administrator serves as a member of a team of professionals in the Research Compliance Services Office (RCS). This position reports directly to an Assistant Director in RCS and includes responsibilities in the following general areas:
- Assistance or delivery of training and outreach and
communications to facilitate regulatory compliance, foster a
culture of research integrity, promote RCR initiatives, and provide
regulatory expertise & guidance to support the UO research
community.
- Service as a resource for researchers and unit professional
staff; provides guidance and consultation in key compliance review
processes and complex federal regulations in order to facilitate UO
research.
- Adherence to best practice and workflow operations to ensure
processes are within regulations, laws, policies, and established
operations; maintenance of regulatory documentation and
participation in regular QI/QA program initiatives; conduct audit
and monitoring activities.
- Development, application, and maintenance of in-depth
regulatory knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations and
policies governing research compliance; best practice knowledge and
application in operations to facilitate regulatory compliance and
research integrity.
Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's degree
- Two (2) years of professional experience focused on research
administration, research compliance, or performing administrative
functions in an active research setting
Professional Competencies - Demonstrated proficiency and high-level technical expertise in
a broad range of research compliance areas, including but not
limited to in-depth knowledge of the federal regulatory framework
governing human subject research, financial conflict of interest,
research misconduct, and responsible conduct of
research.
- Proficiency with multiple forms of information technology,
including web, word processing, data entry, managing electronic
information, and database administration.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills,
as well as diplomacy, discretion, and professionalism.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, attention to
detail, and ability to set appropriate priorities between multiple
concurrent tasks.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize complex concepts and
technical details and transfer them into written
documents.
- Demonstrated ability to provide solution-oriented customer
service and work effectively in a team-based setting.
- Commitment to advancing the University's research goals in
creating a facilitative environment for research while navigating
an increasingly complex research compliance environment that
requires specialized skills and abilities in satisfying federal,
state, and university regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members,
faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse
backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in an active research setting that included human
subjects research
- Experience working to review and/or manage conflicts of
interest
- Experience working with support programs for research
integrity/responsible conduct of research
- Experience with clinical trials
- Experience with fda-regulated research
- Experience working in a research-intensive institution of
higher education
- Research and policy experience; or, an advanced degree in
public policy, law or closely related field
- Experience with Federal reporting criteria and submission
systems related to research administration and
compliance
- Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
