Department Summary
The Genomics and Cell Characterization Core Facility (GC3F) supports scientific research at the University of Oregon by making a broad array of high end specialized instrumentation accessible to UO researchers for genomics, flow cytometry, and imaging applications. The facility offers training on user-operated instruments within the core and provides consultation on experimental design and data interpretation for all of the services supported. The GC3F is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of CLIA-regulated COVID-19 sample testing and lab operations in supporting the University of Oregon's mission. This includes: assuring CLIA-regulated diagnostic services are in compliance with professional standards, state, federal, and university regulatory requirements.

Position Summary
The GC3F CLIA Laboratory Reporting Technician requires a highly motivated person with excellent organizational, laboratory, and communication skills. The CLIA lab technician will perform a variety of tasks independently and in collaboration with other lab members. The purpose of this position is to work with the team providing automated COVID-19 testing services to the campus community. This will involve performing a variety of molecular protocols using both manual pipettes as well as advanced robotic liquid handling systems.

The CLIA MAP Laboratory Reporting Technician works closely with CLIA Laboratory Technicians to ensure that diagnostic reports are completed accurately and in a timely fashion. The CLIA Laboratory Reporting Technician position depends on collaborative, thorough, and productive communication with testing technicians in a variety of media. The CLIA Reporting Technician must be able to execute problem-solving, judgement, and critical thinking skills. They must also work effectively as part of a team.

The laboratory assistant reports to the CLIA General and Technical Lab Supervisor GC3F. This is a funding contingent pro tempore position with the possibility for renewal for three years.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science in a related field OR Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
AND
3 months of experience with PCR technology OR completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program

  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrated integrity and accountability.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Possess a current license issued by the state of OR in which the laboratory is located
  • Current licensure as a medical technician or technologist
  • Experience with LIMS systems
  • Background in clinical laboratory science or relevant research science
