Postdoctoral Research Scholar

Arizona State University’s Arizona Center for Algal Technology and Innovation (AzCATI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. As part of multi-PI and interdisciplinary center, the Postdoc will be working in a uniquely collaborative and productive lab focused on algae biotechnology. Dr. Taylor L. Weiss’s lab leads research on algal consortia in engineered and natural environments, as well as the development of tools to better quantitate such systems to enable decision-making and improve valorization. The Postdoc will assume a leadership role in the lab, interacting with graduate and undergraduate students within the lab and as part of the Center as a whole. The Postdoc will be exposed to many research topics associated with algae research and engineering within the Food-Energy-Water Nexus and will have the opportunity to start new projects. Priority will be given to candidates with experience working with algae, microbes, plants, bioreactor operation, metabolite analysis, biological spectroscopy, and statistical analysis as demonstrated through publications and references. Experience with plant and soil studies, especially monitoring carbon, is highly desired. The qualified candidate is anticipated to start this spring 2022.

 

Essential duties

  1. Project management, meeting coordination and leadership
  2. Experimental design and implementation, data analyses, and report/manuscript preparation
  3. Training and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
  4. Identifying, coordinating, and leading the writing of research proposals and seeking future funding
  5. Establishing and sustaining interactions among faculty, post-docs, and students across the Centers and the
  6. University is central to the position
  7. Coordinating among team members

 

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:  a Ph.D. (within the past four years) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Biostatistics, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or allied discipline.

  

Desired Qualifications

Preference for all applicants will be a strong record of practical experience with cellular and biochemical research. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Hands on experience with large datasets and data analysis and integration. Experience with mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Experience in project management, team leadership, and effective communications

 

Working Environment

This position requires the candidate to be capable of safe, independent research in an indoor BL-2 laboratory with hazardous chemicals, an outdoor field site (including greenhouses), and remote field sites. Operation of project-essential equipment commonly includes microscopes, spectrometers, flow cytometers, and several chromatography platforms. Significant computational work, but occasional lifting (40 lbs.) of palletized supplies.

This position is a full-time, fiscal appointment with a salary of $47,500 with associated university benefits.
