Assistant Director of Marketing

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing (Communications Specialist) who works as part of the marketing and communications team to provide strategic recommendations regarding lead-generation initiatives, direct marketing, advertising, and other recruitment mechanisms. They will provide primary oversight of prospect generation and management, identify new opportunities for the office, set up and manage campaigns or other deliverables, and provide data analysis throughout.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this position will work closely with the leadership of the office, providing foundational insight for recruitment and programs. They will demonstrate a balance of strong analytical and project management skills as well as a creative aptitude.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the office’s direct marketing strategy and provide recommendations and best practices for direct marketing materials and execution.
  • Work with the technical team and external vendors to ensure campaigns launch properly and data is mapped correctly.
  • Provide quarterly and annual analysis of prospect generation and conversion activity to the Dean and Directors; and make recommendations for future prospect development opportunities.
  • Develop new prospect generation strategies and manage analytics to gauge performance.
  • Manage vendor partnerships and set strategy for all third party lead generation vendors for prospect generation; includes working with external vendors and internal marketing team on creation of ads, campaigns and visual presence.
  • Work with the directors to connect lead-generation analysis to recruitment-oriented strategy and assist in developing audience specifications for recruitment-oriented programs.
  • Identify new/untapped opportunities where prospect data suggests an appetite for specific campaigns or programming.
  • Provide strategic recommendations on application pool projection based on prospect-level data.
  • Serve as a liaison to the office’s technical team for campaign setup, data structures and dashboards for analytics, and assessing the efficacy of various marketing campaigns.
  • As a member of the marketing and communications team they will also:
  • Provide general copy-writing and editorial support.
  • Participate in planning and brainstorming sessions with working groups and office leadership.
  • Edit own work and the work of others, to include re-writing when necessary.
  • Proofread and fact-check information.
  • Ensure a consistent look, message, and branding across all office communications.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field required.
  • Two years related experience required, preferably in a marketing role.
  • Four years related experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with direct marketing or admissions recruitment is preferred.
  • Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
*JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Slate or other CRM required.
  • Comfortable learning baseline reporting and campaign functions within a CRM.
  • Ability to convey complex subject matter to a general audience.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at juggling multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple high-priority assignments.
  • Comfortable collaborating and taking feedback from different constituents across campus.
  • Understands the importance of effective communications and eager to fully understand the admissions cycle as well as best marketing practices in higher education.
  • Communicates well with technical staff and other members of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions team.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
