Job Summary:

The Division of Transplantation and Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an abdominal pediatric and adult transplant surgeon to join the faculty at a large academic transplant center. The UW Health Transplant center is one of the world's leading organ transplant centers, and has been on the forefront of transplant advancement since its creation in 1966. Surgeons and scientists in the Division of Transplantation have made innovative discoveries that are used throughout the world. It is one of the most experienced transplant programs in the nation, and more than 15,000 organs have been transplanted at UW in the past 50 years. Responsibilities:

The Pediatric Transplant Surgeon should possess strong clinical experience in pediatric and adult liver and kidney transplantation, as well as transplant immunosuppression. This candidate will also serve as the Surgical Director of the UW Health Pediatric Liver and Kidney Transplant Programs. Through multi-disciplinary collaborations with Pediatric Transplant Hepatologists and Nephrologists and other transplant center staff, the candidate will lead the initiatives aimed at growing the abdominal transplant programs. The successful candidate will also participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegiate relationship with other faculty members.

Responsibilities include: Clinical 70%, Administrative 15%, Research 10% and Teaching 5%

Academic responsibilities will include training medical students, surgical residents, advanced practice providers, and transplant surgical fellows. The ideal candidate will be expected to participate in academic activities including clinical trials, outcomes, and translational or educational research projects.

Terminal Degree
MD, DO, or equivalent required, with specialization in transplantation.

Qualifications:

License/certification:
Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin Medical License. Board Certification or Board Eligible in Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent is required. Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Completion of an approved residency program and an ASTS approved transplant fellowship is required. The candidate must be:
-In practice as a transplant surgeon for a minimum of 5 years after completion of fellowship training.
-Possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
-Have the credentials to meet the University of Wisconsin and School of Medicine and Public Health criteria for promotion.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every four years.
