Job Summary:

The Dean of Students Office (DOSO) is an integral part of Student Affairs, and collaborates broadly across campus units and programs that serve students to enhance UW Madison as a welcoming and inclusive community for all students.

This position will demonstrate a commitment to social justice and inclusive excellence and represent the Dean of Student's Office at events as requested. This position will also serve the community by serving on drop-in services and on-call.

Bachelor's Degree

Preferred
Master's Degree
Degree should be in college student personnel, student affairs, higher education, or related area required.

Qualifications:

A minimum of four years professional experience in college student personnel, student services, residence life/housing or related areas is required.

Required Skills and Experience:
1. Practical understanding of student development and student cultures.
2. Commitment to social justice and inclusive excellence.
3. Higher education experience handling student referrals to campus and community resources.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and administration of highly detailed and sensitive administrative processes while responding to student needs in an effective, culturally competent and compassionate manner.
5. Experience working with people in crisis and using effective crisis management skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast pace environment and manage multiple priorities.
7. Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
8. Effective counseling skills.

Desired Skills and Experience:
1. Knowledge of campus structure and resources.
2. Understanding of student system databases.
3. Assessment and data analysis experience.

The Dean of Students Office ( https://doso.students.wisc.edu/ ) is a primary resource that connects students who are navigating personal, academic, or health issues, to supportive campus and community resources. The office also consults faculty and staff, parents, families, and friends, working together to serve students.

The successful candidate will have experience working in a higher education environment where ambiguity and collaborating as a team is expected. A commitment to positive workplace climate and organization mission is vital. Some evening and weekend work is required.
