Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence (SAIE) is the central student affairs division of the University of Denver. SAIE includes Housing and Residential Education, Student Engagement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Health and Counseling, Inclusion & Equity Education, Disability Services Program, Cultural Center, Access & Transitions, Learning Effectiveness Program, Veterans Services, Student Outreach and Support, Student Rights & Responsibilities, Budget, Operations and Division Resources, New Student and Family Programs, Community and Driscoll Commons.

  • The Dean of Students (DOS) Office oversees and elevates student support, accessibility programs, diversity, equity, & inclusion initiatives, and behavioral accountability. This office supports and serves as a central point of contact for students and their families, faculty, and staff. Areas within the DOS include: Access & Transitions, Cultural Center, Disability Services Program, Inclusion & Equity Education, Learning Effectiveness Program, Student Outreach & Support, Student Rights & Responsibilities, and Veterans Services

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence & Dean of Students, (DOS) the Associate Dean of Students (ADOS) is a senior leader in the Division of Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence. This position is the individual to whom the DOS delegates authority for the Dean of Students Office in her absence. The ADOS is a member of the DOS leadership team and of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT). This position supervises the directors responsible for critical University initiatives and functions: Access & Transitions, The Cultural Center, and Inclusion & Equity Education.

    In partnership with the Vice Chancellor (VC) of SAIE and the DOS, the ADOS will establish a comprehensive strategic vision for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for SAIE. This position partners closely with SAIE colleagues, the University's Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, academic colleges, and campus partners as the representative of student experiences on various DEI University committees.

    This is a new role for SAIE with opportunities to further evolve based on strategic planning and alignment. Further developing context for this role will be an opportunity for our new leader in partnership with the VC and DOS of SAIE.

    This is a full-time, 12-month position.

    Essential Functions

    Departmental and Divisional Leadership:

  • Serve on the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) and Dean of Students (DOS) Office leadership team
  • Serve as a Senior Subject Matter Expert with DEI for SAIE
  • In partnership with the SAIE Director of Assessment and Planning, oversee and manage a comprehensive assessment plan for the areas of oversight and work with each departmental leader regarding their comprehensive plans
  • Collaborate with the DOS to establish a strategic vision, sustainable infrastructure, and assessment plan for the SAIE Division and DOS area focused on the values of DEI and aligned with University planning
  • Oversee and manage budget of the ADOS area and support the departmental leadership with fiscal responsibility and budget management. Partner with the DOS and divisional leadership on budget development processes
  • Supervise, evaluate, and lead the Directors of Access and Transitions, The Cultural Center, and Inclusion & Equity Education. Partner with all three offices to develop a collaborative DEI plan for comprehensive student support for students of color, LGBTQ+, first generation and underserved populations that is in alignment with SAIE and Division of DEI goals and objectives
  • Manage family, staff, and faculty-related matters and triage crises that escalate through ADOS departments or that the DOS delegates to the ADOS
  • Serve as a member of the DOS on-call team when this is developed
  • Serve on University DEI committees
  • Keep current in effective practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • In partnership with Divisional and DEI departmental oversight, engage in donor relations and collaborate with the SAIE Advancement representatives regarding information needed for grants and other funding resources
  • Supervision:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and establish performance goals for Directors and other direct reports
  • Provide professional development on intersectionality, DEI, team cohesion, and supervision to direct reports and their departments and other campus departments as the need arises
  • Set annual goals for each team member and team supervised
  • Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with University departments, SAIE leaders, and campus partners to advocate for and elevate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility for students
  • Create a sustainable infrastructure to engage student affinity groups and students from underrepresented communities and provide them a process through which they can share their experiences and voices
  • Convene the DEI Student Advisory Committee to provide an avenue through which to share student input with SAIE and University leadership
  • Administration:

  • Oversee relevant administrative operations, processes, and transactions to support adherence to University, local, state, and federal policies and procedures
  • Partner with the annual review of DOS Office student policies and serve as a consultant for the Division with a lens towards equitable and inclusive policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement, and oversee protocols to handle employee and student personal information
  • Develop working knowledge of administrative software systems such as Banner, Inspire, Maxient, and other relevant software
  • Trained as an appellate officer for Student Rights & Responsibilities and other relevant student processes
  • Other:

  • In consultation with the VC of SAIE and DOS, serve on institution-wide committees, taskforces, councils, and advisory boards and engage in other opportunities relevant to enriching student experiences

  • Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling Psychology, Intercultural Studies, or similar field
  • Five (5) years’ experience supervising, evaluating, and training, full-time professionals
  • Experience overseeing areas such as accessibility services, social justice education, cultural centers, and/or first-generation programs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated practice with intersectionality
  • Five (5) years of progressive leadership and professional experience working in a college or university setting
  • Five (5) years of progressive leadership overseeing DEI areas and a proven record of advancing DEI
  • Experience managing, monitoring, and forecasting budgets
  • Experience facilitating organizational change and managing conflict
  • Experience with assessment planning
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in higher education or related field
  • Ten (10) + years of professional leadership and professional experience working in a college or University setting
  • Experience with donor relations and grant writing
  • Experience with and or knowledge of Student Rights & Responsibilities, Behavioral Intervention, and Veterans Services.
  • Work Schedule
    Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    Salary Grade Number:
    The salary grade for the position is 15.

    Salary Range:
    The salary range for this position is $107,000 - $125,000.

    The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting.
