The College of Applied Health Sciences is accepting applications for a Director of Operations and Services.  This position will provide administrative oversight for the day-to-day operation of the Chez Veterans Center’s (CVC).  This position will manage all student-related services and activities, professional staff, budgetary functions, strategic program planning, community/veteran engagement activities, recruitment and outreach to potential student veterans, and fundraising initiatives. The Director will report directly to the Dean of the College of Applied Health Sciences and maintain a constructive workplace and welcoming student culture at the CVC.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Organizational Leadership & Development

  • Administer program planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the CVC’s student and community related programs.
  • Provide regular analyses of the CVC’s services/activities to inform strategic planning and maximize utilization of resources.
  • Act as the chief financial officer and administer budget allocations and spending for efficient and effective operations. 
  • Establish partnerships and collaborative relationships with the VA and other private or public veteran service organizations and advocacy groups supporting the needs and rights of veterans.
  • Oversee collaborative relationships with other campus resources that support student-veterans and other military connected students.
  • In consultation with the Dean of AHS, formulate and implement operational policies and procedures for the CVC.
  • In cooperation with the Office for Human Resources in the College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS), be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, evaluation, and disciplinary action and separation of staff. 
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Research to formulate, initiate, and implement research and research-related engagement activities emerging from the CVC.
  • In collaboration with relevant academic departments and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Graduate Affairs, oversee the development and execution of credit bearing courses offered by the CVC for veterans and students from the general population.

 

Outreach & Relationship Management

  • Oversee marketing and recruitment of veterans and military-connected students, ensuring collaboration with college-level and campus-level recruitment offices. 
  • In collaboration with the AHS Communications office, ensure quality communication and marketing efforts through social media and traditional print and video materials
  • Oversee the development and execution of the Center’s crisis response and management plans.
  • In consultation with the Dean of AHS, manage the CVC’s Advisory Board. 
  • Direct the CVC’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Assist in fund raising and public relations and serve as an ambassador for the CVC on campus and in the community.
  • Collaborate with ROTC to create relevant programming for military-connected students on campus. 
  • Oversee CVC events promoting the wellbeing of veterans and military-connected students. 
  • In consultation and cooperation with the Office of Advancement in AHS, work to nurture prospective donors and steward existing donors to the CVC.
  • Serve on Campus Advisory Committee on Military Veterans.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Graduate degree in organizational management, human service management, military science, business administration, rehabilitation administration, health administration, or related area.

Record of successful organizational leadership, budget oversight, and personnel management in University settings, Veterans Affairs, ROTC, National Guard, Active Duty Military, Reserves, or Veterans Service Organizations.

Minimum of 5 years management experience.

Prior military service with honorable separation or current service in Reserves or Guard

 

Preferred:

Record of successful higher education experience, focused on military-related students.

Prior higher education teaching and student orientation experience.

Prior advancement and fund raising experience.

 

Knowledge Required:

Approaches to leadership development and team building.

Methods of strategic planning.

Strategies for community engagement and outreach.

Principles/values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Strategies for effective social media and communication outreach.

Trends/issues related to student-veterans and military connected students.

Familiarity with national laws governing the student experience such as FERPA, HIPPA, and Title IX.

 

Environmental Demands

Normal office environment. Some moving between buildings is required. 

 

SALARY: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Appointment Status and Start Date

This is a full-time (100%), 12 month Academic Professional appointment.  The proposed start is as soon as possible after the closing date.
