The Scholarship Counselor is responsible for working with both institutional and non-institutional offices, agencies, foundations and private donors on the awarding, processing, and tracking of all scholarships and special programs under they manage. Works autonomously to fulfill data requests and provides various reports as required throughout the academic year for all scholarship programs for which they are responsible. Provides general and MSU Denver specific scholarship and Financial Aid counseling to current and prospective students and their families. Serves as the Office of Financial Aid liaison with outside private scholarship agencies. Serves on scholarship and/or retention committees as needed. Scholarship Counselor’s responsibilities at MSU Denver serve an essential educational function of the University as it works closely with the strategic enrollment management initiatives including recommending, establishing, and administering policies and procedures related to delivery of aid to students in order for students to achieve their college degrees.

IND208 Duties/Responsibilities
Process scholarships in compliance to rules and regulations. This may include working with state and/or private external reporting systems. Program review and maintenance of policies and procedures to best administer scholarships. Assist office needs for service, timely processing, reporting, and training.
Oversees the management, awarding and reconciliation of scholarship funds via the Banner Funds Management System
Meet regularly with representatives from internal and external partners to ensure clarity of communications, information, and processes. Serves as the liaison between MSU Denver Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and state/external agencies. Serves as the representative on multidepartment initiatives.
Promote multicultural and diversity initiatives for improved student retention
Updates and trains internal staff as subject matter expert in areas of responsibility
Develops and maintains policies and procedures on principal job duties.
Other duties as assigned, including counseling duties for students and parents regarding the financial aid application process, eligibility, needs
Works with management to increase stewardship and support program development. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
One year financial aid experience
General Knowledge of financial aid processes, guidelines, and procedure
Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, verbal and written communication, time management, and human relations
Proficiency with standard MS Office software applications

Knowledge of Banner or similar financial aid software
Experience with administering and record keeping of scholarships
Ability to resolve data integrity issues in and discrepancies within Banner is preferred Work Hours
