The Communication Sciences Program within the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University is seeking applications for a full-time Lecturer position to teach undergraduate American Sign Language (ASL) courses to begin AY 2022-2023. The successful applicant would teach our offerings in Introductory ASL (ASL 1) and ASL 2, and would also develop and offer an ASL 3 course. The department has a PhD program in communication sciences, a CAA accredited master's program in communication sciences (speech-language pathology), and a strong, diverse, and vibrant undergraduate program. In addition, the department has both an APA accredited Ph.D. program in clinical psychology, a PhD and master’s program in Developmental, Cognitive, and Affective Sciences, and an undergraduate program in psychology. The teaching load is three courses each semester.
Case Western Reserve University is a Research 1 institution, ranked

(US News and World Report). It is located in University Circle, a
world-renowned area for its cultural vibrancy (including Severance
Hall, the home of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Art

many more). All Communication Sciences Program faculty offices are

cutting-edge teaching opportunities. The student body is diverse
with 90% of the undergraduate student body from the top 20% of
their high school class. The Communication Sciences Program faculty
work together as an energetic and positive team continuously
striving to strengthen the training and experience of our
students.
An MA degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Education, Linguistics, or a
related field is required by the time of appointment. Prior
experience teaching undergraduate ASL courses and/or being a native
signer of ASL will be positively reviewed. Candidates should submit
1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a teaching statement
that includes evidence of effective teaching, 4) a diversity
statement, and 5) a list of three references. The one-page
diversity statement should explain how one’s teaching has
contributed to diversity, equity and inclusion within a scholarly
field(s) and/or how individual and/or collaborative efforts have
promoted structural justice inside and outside institutions of
higher learning. This statement should also reflect on the ways in
which the candidate’s continued efforts will foster a culture of
diversity, pluralism, and individual difference at Case Western
