CHAIR, HEALTH INFORMATICS & DATA SCIENCE

The Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health and Dean Elaine Morrato seek a strategic leader and distinguished scholar to serve as the chair of the Department of Health Informatics & Data Science. The next chair will chart a bold course and strategy for the department’s future that enables and supports faculty and students to lead health informatics and data science work across and beyond Loyola University Chicago.

The Department of Health Informatics and Data Science is home to the Center for Health Outcomes and Informatics Research ( CHOIR ). Established in 2017 with a $25 million endowment, CHOIR is a university-wide center that enhances and facilitates collaborative, interdisciplinary research across Loyola. The chair of Health Informatics and Data Science is responsible for stewarding CHOIR and serves as de facto director of the center.

The department is located on Loyola’s Health Sciences Campus at the state-of-the-art Center for Translational Research and Education, which brings together Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine, Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Graduate School, and Health System around a shared goal — the rapid translation of new knowledge to real treatments and practice that save lives and improve public health and healthcare delivery.

The successful candidate must meet Loyola University of Chicago rank and tenure guidelines at the Professor level. An earned doctoral degree is required, combined with significant experience in one or more related fields such as, but not limited to: AI, computer science, applied mathematics, computer engineering, biomedical informatics, biostatistics, clinical epidemiology, health services research, medicine, nursing, or public health.

Qualifications
Candidates must possess a doctoral degree and significant work experience in biomedical/health informatics from any of the following disciplines: computer science, computer engineering, biomedical informatics, applied mathematics, biostatistics, medicine, nursing, health services research, clinical epidemiology, public health or related field.
Candidates must have a nationally/internationally recognized health informatics research program with a distinguishable publication and funding record and demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. The successful candidate must be able to meet rank and tenure guidelines at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
Candidates with demonstrated administrative experience, including people development and mentorship and fiscal budget management, are preferred.
We encourage candidates with expertise in large data analytics from electronic health records ( EHR ), picture archive and communication systems, administrative data, social media and mobile technologies, or other large data repositories. Experience and working knowledge of medical vocabularies, common data models, EHR interoperability platforms, and regional or national collaborations in health informatics are desired.
The ideal candidate will foster inter-disciplinary collaborations, facilitate new grants and technologies, and support department faculty to lead health informatics across the Loyola campus. Physical Demands Working Conditions Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
