Description/Job Summary

Under supervision of the Director of Student Success, the Student Success Advisor commits to advising students in their pursuit of academic excellence and personal development. Employees in this class provide leadership in strategies that support students as they learn about academic expectations and requirements, practice successful learning strategies, manage personal resources, and navigate college systems. In addition, the student success advisor develops and implements co-curricular programs and events that engage students and support their abilities to clarify career and/or transfer goals, to improve their academic success behaviors, and to engage in and connect to the college community. This position supports student success in the areas of academic advising, career literacy, understanding financial and academic consequences of lack of academic progress, and student engagement to enhance commitment to goal attainment.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Provides accurate academic, career and transfer advising to new students, students on academic warning and returning students from academic dismissal;
  • Builds rapport with students, setting and reinforcing student expectations;
  • Provides Academic coaching to students who run into obstacles on their path to degree completion;
  • Assists students with understanding ACCUPLACER results/Multiple measures;
  • Assists students with course credit transfer reviews and review educational plan;
  • Works collaboratively across the college community to support to students in the career pathways;
  • Assists students with understanding degree completion requirements and with course registration and schedules;
  • Promotes student engagement and college completion behaviors by connecting students to appropriate resources and activities. Develops educational plans with students and monitors advising milestone progress, academic status and progress towards graduation;
  • Review satisfactory academic progress (SAP), to include developmental education completion, and supports students through SAP appeals processes to continue Financial Aid;
  • Documents advising meetings in compliance with established Student Success Center processes;
  • Completes exit interview for students who are withdrawing from the college and documents;
  • Supports students engaged in reinstatement processes after returning from academic dismissal;
  • Provides academic advising/coaching for students on academic warning;
  • Participates in college wide projects;
  • Reviews student inquiry and accurately completes academic renewal form with students who meet the criteria;
  • Serves as a departmental advisor liaison for the Career Pathway areas and documents updates monthly. Recommends, designs, and supports the implementation of programs and retention services focused on integrating career literacy outcomes and college completion planning for the entire student body;
  • Engage in classroom outreach to promote student success and career literacy
  • Serve on institution wide committees to better understand alignment of Strategic plan Engages in professional development activities focused on Division priorities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as education, counseling, or academic field directly related to this role.
  • Minimum of one year experience as an academic advisor or related academic functions within higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (counseling, psychology, higher education administration, etc.); demonstrated experience as an academic advisor and an understanding of developmental and prescriptive advising practices; and strong presentation skills. Experience responding to a variety of internal and external constituencies; experience interpreting policies and making decisions independently; experience using Banner ERP, Colleague, or similar software.
