The Social Work Department in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Indiana seeks an associate professor or full professor to serve as its department chair beginning in July 2022. The twelve-month position involves both administrative and teaching responsibilities. Review of candidates will begin November 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.

Position Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in social work or a similarly related discipline from an accredited Institution.
  • An MSW from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program and a minimum of two years of post MSW practice experience.
  • Experience with CSWE accreditation standards at both the BSW and MSW levels.
  • Two years of University–level administrative experience: Chair, Program Director, or other significant administrative responsibilities.
  • Strong record of university-level teaching and advising experience, scholarly work, and service within the university, community, and profession commensurate with an appointment of a tenured associated or full professor.
  • Demonstrate commitment with diversity, equity, inclusion, community engagement, and social justice issues.
  • Knowledge of online teaching and learning.
  • Experience managing budgets.

  • Strong, effective, and collaborative leadership skills for a diverse social work department.
  • Ability to recognize and reward excellence, promote team building, and accountability.
  • Support new technologies and leadership in curriculum development, including the exploration of online courses and programming.
  • Experience with personnel reviews, tenure and promotions.
  • Mentorship of faculty in all phases of their careers.
  • Experience in strategic planning, program reviews, resource management, and grant writing.
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including university administration, faculty, students, and community to best represent the interests of the department.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience cultivating and maintaining community relationships.

 

The mission of the USI Social Work Department is to prepare students for competency-driven practice focused on evolving issues in the community. The Social Work Department, consisting of 13 full time faculty members, was recently reaccredited by CSWE. Our undergraduate program consists of 125 students who have been admitted into the program along with over 100 pre-major students. Our graduate program, with a clinical concentration, consists of 100 students amongst the various cohorts. The Department also houses the Center for Social Justice Education which promotes social justice and empowerment through education, research, and collaboration.
