Job Description:

The School for Graduate Studies at SUNY Empire State College seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor in Higher Education Leadership. The successful candidate will have expertise in higher education leadership and will teach, develop curriculum, and mentor/advise students in the program. Central to the faculty role is helping adults from diverse cultural backgrounds design and complete degrees that meet their personal and professional goals. SUNY Empire faculty provide individualized advising from entry through graduation to students in their overall academic program, including design of the degree and identifying opportunities for prior learning assessment.

A highly distributed organization, SUNY Empire makes extensive use of technological applications for communication, teaching and learning, and administrative purposes. Working in cooperation with local and statewide faculty and staff, the successful candidate will provide high-quality educational services to students, engage in an active scholarly agenda, participate in college governance, and enhance the college's reputation within the community.

 


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership or a related field from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university.
  • Doctoral-level teaching experience.
  • Ability to develop and teach courses in educational leadership and change in higher education.
  • Ability to develop and teach courses in advanced research methods.
  • Experience with learning technologies, online teaching, and course development.
  • Strong record of success in publishing peer-reviewed research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The desire and skills to engage with a diverse student body.
  • Strong communication, computer, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience chairing dissertations.
  • Experience with academic program development, innovative program delivery, and individualized programs.
  • Experience mentoring and teaching non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to diversity issues in higher education and/or through community-based work.
  • Strong record of success in acquiring external funding.

Special Information:

  • The location is open to any of SUNY Empire's major locations across New York State (Saratoga Springs, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Hudson Valley, New York City, or Long Island).
  • Teaching in evening and weekend residencies and retreats per program needs will be required.
  • Office hours (primarily online) will vary to accommodate student needs.
  • Some travel and overnights required.

 


Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: Tenure-track, Assistant/Associate Professor, 12-month appointment, salary commensurate with experience.
