College of the Sequoias is seeking an equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Human Services Department beginning August 2022.

Job Duties

Teaching assignments may include: Intro to Human Services, Intro to Social Welfare, Interviewing, Group design and leadership, Issues in family violence, Case Management, Gerontology, Drug and alcohol treatment, and Field Work. Assignments may include evening classes, weekend classes, online, and teaching at our locations in Visalia, Hanford, and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments is expected. Other responsibilities include maintenance of a number of office hours, full participation in departmental responsibilities, and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, justice, and appreciation for diversity throughout the college.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must meet the following criteria:

Master's in interdisciplinary area OR

Master's in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline OR

The equivalent AND

Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Hiring Committee also seeks evidence of the following:

Master's in Social Work or Psychology.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW.

Community college, adult, secondary or post-secondary teaching experience.

Recent successful experience in the private or public sector.

Demonstrated working knowledge of the culturally responsive trends in the social work profession for destigmatizing and decolonizing mental health practices.

Successful experience working with students/clients from diverse backgrounds and the ability to address the needs of frequently under-prepared students/clients. (Equity Narrative will be completed as part of the application.)

Experience relevant to trauma-informed practices such as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), interconnectedness, and intergenerational healing.

Possess a wide variety of successful experiences in the field of Social Work.

Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening, online, and large group instruction classes at any one of the three campuses as needed.

Refer students to appropriate support services, programs, and/or resources on campus as needed.

Contribute to the development and growth of the Human Services Department and to the growth of its Associate Degree for Transfer.

Cooperate with department initiatives, program review, program and student learning outcomes development, and assessment to improve student learning.

Participate in department, division, college, and/or district committee assignments.

Comply with district, college, and division policies in the performance of all duties.

Participation in community service.
